Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 4: New Details About Vulturess Emerge And She WOULDN'T Have Been Felicia Hardy

Some new Spider-Man 4 story details have been revealed, and it's said Angelina Jolie was eyed to play The Vulture's daughter, suiting up as Vulturess in the wake of her father's death at Spidey's hands.

For years, rumours have persisted that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 would have seen Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat, reimagined as The Vulture's daughter. Played by Anne Hathaway, The Vulturess was going take aim at the web-slinger, though this departure from the comics has frequently been singled out as a reason to not mourn for the scrapped movie too much.

Well, it appears we were mistaken because a new book, With Great Power, sheds some light on Raimi's real plans. Storyboard artist Jeffrey Henderson reveals that Eternals star Angelina Jolie was "attached to this pivotal role for a short amount of time" as Adrian Toomes' daughter.

As well as suiting up as Vulturess, the unnamed character was set to be "an accomplished executive representing a venture capital firm that was trying to buy the Daily Bugle." What led to this businesswoman becoming a supervillain? The death of her dear old dad!

"They were going to have a big brawl-for-it-all, where Vulture almost kills Spider-Man," Henderson explains. "And then Spider-Man at the last minute - he’s really wounded, he’s bleeding really badly, he’s in real trouble - Peter finally, almost as a reaction, forces The Vulture off."

"When he does, it snaps some of the stuff from the wings, so he ends up just tumbling into the ether, off the top of the Citicorp building. That’s what does him in."

Spidey inadvertently killing the villain is unlikely to have sat too well with some fans, though it's interesting to think that might have led to the emergence of a new baddie in The Vulture's daughter! The creation of a new character like this when there are so many to choose from in the comics may have surely been a big talking point, but it sounds like a compelling enough arc.

It's also noted that Hathaway was indeed eyed to play Black Cat, meaning Peter Parker would have more than likely found a new love interest in the wake of Mary Jane Watson's departure.

I mean......I like the arc in a way...just not the way they think.

Does any of this actually contradict what was already known though? It could have been Jolie, it could've been Hathaway, the movie never actually happened. Also, wasn't her name supposed to be Felicia?

From director Sam Raimi about Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises:

“I didn’t get to see Batman yet, because I’ve been working nonstop… but I hear she’s great in it. I’m not surprised, because I loved what she was doing with the auditions for Spider-Man 4.”

So, Anne Hathaway actually auditioned for Spider-Man 4. Those tapes will be somewhere. I'd love to see them one day.

Also I wonder if this storyboard artist was the same one who did these...

...because that looks an awful lot like Anne Hathaway, to me.

Actually, reading that old article now, Raimi confirms that Anne Hathaway was going to play Felicia Hardy.

Vulture: "I know you’d been pursuing Anne Hathaway to star in Spider-Man 4 … she was going to play Felicia Hardy, right?"

Sam Raimi: "Yes."

Don't know why the death of vulture wouldn't have sat well with fans. That's literally what happened to green goblin and Eddie Brock. Only real problem I could see is how repetitive it was, especially since the vulturess stuff sounds like a repeat of the new goblin stuff we just got.

I'd have been there in the theater on opening night, as with the previous 3.

Maybe Raimi has more time to redo the story and up his game if his given the opportunity again.

Not sure about the whole "Vultress" thing but I guarantee that this movei would've been more enjoyable than the TASM and MCU movies imo.

@slickrickdesigns - I'll admit the movie sounded weird but tbh I'd rather have a weird enjoyable Spider-Man movie than a okay-to-mediocre movie about Iron Man's sidekick played by a poor-man's Michael J Fox.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - yeah, agree to disagree… Tom Holland is great. Poor mans MJFox? That kid might be making more than MJFox ever made.

I just think the Raimi films are good, TASM films are ok and Holland films are good too. Each have something special about them and something not special at all.

@slickrickdesigns - I just think that he's doing a bad Marty Mcfly impression whenever I see him tbh lol.

I do think personally that the MCU movies get more love due to how intergrated they are rather than their actual quality (and the TASM movies were just ruined by having Avi Arad as the main producer smh) .

@slickrickdesigns - Making more, maybe, but that doesn't mean he's as engaging in his performance.
