Apparently Asa Butterfield Is Frontrunner For SPIDER-MAN Role; May Even Have It In The Web

We recently found out that Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James were on the shortist for the covered role of Marvel's new Spider-Man, and now a new report reckons the Ender's Game actor might be in with a VERY good chance of nabbing it...

It could just be a matter of time before Marvel and Sony officially announce our new Spider-Man, because the latest report reckons Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game, Hugo) is not only the frontrunner, but might possibly have the role in the bag already. Latino Review's sources believe the 18-year-old actor is the favourite, with one of them pretty sure he's already been cast, claiming “Marvel had liked him since day one.”

When the shortlist was revealed, it was also confirmed that the plan is to introduce the character in Captain America: Civil War, which means they'll have to have the role cast pretty soon (the actor will be needed on set in June apparently) so Butterfield may very well be our new Wall Crawler!

Keep an eye on CBM for updates. Drew Goddard is still frontrunner to helm the solo Spidey flick, which is set to hit theaters July 28, 2017.

This guy isn't from NYC, he's from the UK.

Terrible choice :)

Also @blackandyellow thought you should know, Cipher is alive. That lovable bastard is still around.

@Doopie

I know. We finally get an American Batman and we are still with Spider-Men from the UK.

El Mayimbe? Nope, big grain of salt for that one, i mean he would be good, but just cause he might be the top contender on the short list doesn't mean jack. Chris evans and andrew garfield wern't on the revealed shortlists before they go the parts for cap and spidey.

Not sure I'd want him for the role. But if he's not only on the shortlist but even considered the frontrunner that's as good as an announcement of someone else getting the role anyways...

claiming “Marvel had liked him since day one.”

Not sure if Marvel Studios is hiring him or Bryan Singer...

I don't care until it's official, just because I've never seen most of the actors on the shortlist.

The word "Butter" should never be in a human being's last name.

This is such a dull choice. If only because he's such a freaking obvious choice. But he's talented. Very talented.

Whatever. Time to really strap in for this wild ride.

I originally wanted Timothée Chalamet but he doesn't fit how unestablished Spider-Man, or rather Peter Parker should be looked at. Not a preppy cool kid who shortly is recognizable as an alpha. A normal and slightly awkward regular dude. Super cool dude Peter can go. I haven't seen him act in much besides Hugo and I can really dig this choice.

And honestly, are we really in position to tell Marvel who or who not to cast when they've pretty much nailed every major role?

@Reasonnnn Wow, real mature there. I'm sorry when i don't blindly trust anybody on the internet, i know he has gotten some things right, but A he hasn't gotten things right lately. and B All i'm saying is just cause Asa Butterfield is on the shortlist doesn't mean jack shit cause so many people who wern't on the shortlists for thier roles got them.
