Co-Writers For SPIDER-MAN Reboot Officially On Board

Following reports that they were in early talks, the screenwriters (and co-directors) of the upcoming Vacation reboot sequel have confirmed that they will be scripting the Spider-Man reboot.

It was reported just a couple weeks ago that John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein had entered "early talks" to write the screenplay for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. And while promoting their directorial debut Vacation, which they also co-wrote, the comedy filmmaking duo confirmed they've officially signed on for the 2017 reboot with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

"We can finally acknowledge that," said John Francis Daley during a joint NPR interview. "This is the first time that we can say that we are writing it." Jonathan M. Goldstein then chimed in saying, "We've been saying no comment for the last week" and that they are thrilled. "He's a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he's an outcast and a geek through humor," said Daley of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. "It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he's coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have."

Directed by Jon Watts, Marvel and Sony's untitled Spider-Man reboot so far stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and is scheduled to open in theaters on July 28, 2017. However, the friendly neighborhood web-slinger will first make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut alongside the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016. What do you think?

@Doopie
They wrote 'Horrible Bosses' but I don't know if anyone would consider that to be a top-tier comedy, they're at least capable of being witty, the question is will they be consistent with this wittiness and not churn out 2 good jokes out of 3 then give an awful, cheesy, seizure-inducing excuse of a joke for the third. They've only written comedies so its hard to say whether or not they're qualified for the job in terms of drama, at this point all we can do is hope Marvel's underdog formula will work no differently with them. Oh, and maybe also pray!

Everything they've made is complete shit. Marvel should've have gotten the writers of 500 Days of Summer and Fault in Our Stars if they wanted writers who can deal with young adult humor and actually, you know, write.

What a shame. Let's see if Marvel's inhouse writers can improve whatever crap they come up with.

@Doopie Nothing good, same as James Gunn and look what a wonderful job he did with Guardians of the Galaxy.

I don't have much confidence in these writers, but at this point Marvel has the benefit of the doubt when it comes to stuff like this. Here's hoping this will turn out like the out-of-nowhere hiring of the Russo bros.

Well to be fair, Gunn did write the screenplay for the Dawn of the Dead remake.

Comedy, comedy, comedy, comedy, comedy...

Every Marvel studios movie is the same thing, seems more like Comedy movies than superhero movies..

@Milk2

remember when 2 comedy directors took over for The Winter Soldier?

@wonderbread

you said the same thing about cap 2, and you looked like an asshat

I haven't loved everything they've done but I trust that Marvel isn't going to completely [frick] over Spider-Man. It's not like they're just hiring some asshole off the street who just happened to be wearing Spider-Man shirt that day.

I think Marvel knows what they're doing at this point

There goes VisualMaximus bringing up DC again for no reason at all...

Let's hope they can make this right, we saw what Marc Webb did with the character he messed it up, so i have faith in Marvel as long as they don't make to much humor, there needs also to be little drama to. When it comes to fighting villains etc...

I'm not the biggest MCU fan... but they'll probably get Spider-man right.

I mean, they HAVE been doing pretty much every other hero with Parker's humor and banter, so now that they actually have the real thing...

This reboot of the Spider-man sounds awful, totally pre teenage, ugh!

@VisualMaximus50

"You mean the same way DC fans bring up Marvel all the time?"

Never said they didn't. But you doing it doesn't make you any better, in fact you just look even more childish.

"Oh what, you're hurt now?"

No but your insecurity is pretty hilarious, please continue.
