Stan Lee Has No Problem With Zendaya Playing Mary Jane Watson In SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING
The news that Zendaya is playing MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming was met with a very vocal response last week, but one person who has no problem with the casting is creator Stan "The Man" Lee...
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Zendaya doesn't have white skin or red hair, hence why the internet exploded last week when it was revealed that she will play Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has already leapt to her defence (without confirming the casting of course), but Zendaya has another high profile supporter in Stan Lee.
Talking in a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Lee - who is credited with the character's creation alongside John Romita, Sr. and Steve Ditko - had this to say about the actress joining Spider-Man: Homecoming. "If she is as good an actress as I hear she is, I think it’ll be absolutely wonderful. The colour of their skin doesn’t matter, their religion doesn’t matter. All that matters is that this the right person for the role." Honestly, it's hard to counter that as "The Man" makes plenty of great points!
It's been said that the reveal Zendaya is playing MJ was supposed to be a surprise in the movie, so it now remains to be seen whether or not the casting news getting out there will change how Marvel promots the character's involvement. Are you on board with the actress starring as this character in Spider-Man: Homecoming? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
