The legend known as Nicolas Cage has made quite the impact in the comic book movie realm, even if he did miss out on playing Superman once upon a time! After starring in movies like Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass, the actor lent his voice to Spider-Man Noir in 2018's Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Will he return for the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse? While there's been no sign of heroes like Spider-Ham and SP//dr in the trailers for the movie, Peter B. Parker and Spider-Gwen will join Miles Morales in this latest adventure, but it appears Spider-Man Noir will not.
Screen Rant recently caught up with Cage and asked him what the chances are we'll see him in this summer's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
"You'd have to ask Sony. I don't know what's going on with that. No one's spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don't know. I really don't. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that's a great character. Spider-Man's the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it's a great character."
The actor could be trying to keep a possible cameo role secret here, but it really doesn't sound like we should expect him to appear in the movie.
This will disappoint many fans, of course, and with so many other Spider-Men set to appear, we'd like to think there will be some sort of explanation for the wall-crawler's absence. There's still time for Cage to record something for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but we wouldn't bank on it.
While lots of rumours are swirling, in terms of confirmed cast members, the movie will star Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld. Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.
Written by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.
