SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE - Nic Cage Confirms He Won't Return As Spider-Man Noir In Sequel

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse looks set to put the spotlight on more web-slingers than ever before, but based on comments from Nicolas Cage, Spider-Man Noir will not be among them. Check it out...

The legend known as Nicolas Cage has made quite the impact in the comic book movie realm, even if he did miss out on playing Superman once upon a time! After starring in movies like Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass, the actor lent his voice to Spider-Man Noir in 2018's Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Will he return for the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse? While there's been no sign of heroes like Spider-Ham and SP//dr in the trailers for the movie, Peter B. Parker and Spider-Gwen will join Miles Morales in this latest adventure, but it appears Spider-Man Noir will not

Screen Rant recently caught up with Cage and asked him what the chances are we'll see him in this summer's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

"You'd have to ask Sony. I don't know what's going on with that. No one's spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don't know. I really don't. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that's a great character. Spider-Man's the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it's a great character."

The actor could be trying to keep a possible cameo role secret here, but it really doesn't sound like we should expect him to appear in the movie.

This will disappoint many fans, of course, and with so many other Spider-Men set to appear, we'd like to think there will be some sort of explanation for the wall-crawler's absence. There's still time for Cage to record something for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but we wouldn't bank on it.

While lots of rumours are swirling, in terms of confirmed cast members, the movie will star Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld. Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Written by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

Spiderman Noir is probably in it, just got someone else to do the 30 seconds of dialogue he probably has in the movie.

“Spider-Man's the coolest superhero” idk i always assumed cage’s favorite was superman haha

@tmp3 - I thought so as well. Maybe he doesn’t mean coolest as in ‘the best’ but more a general ‘he’s one the coolest’ superheroes type thing.

@tmp3 - I always assumed it was Luke Cage since it inspired the "Cage" part of his name.

Bringing back the previous characters AND introducing a lot of new ones? Yeah, no surprise that they're not going with that. More Cage is always welcome though

@Luigi - SAME! Maybe a double feature with the first half being Spider-Man Noir in a black and white mystery investigating the Maggia (Hammerhead, Silvermane, Vulture (the cannibal one) and the second half being Spider-Man 2099 in a Blade Runner-esque sci-fi where faces off against a gender-bent Doctor Octopus and her bodyguard, Miguel's half-brother Kron Stone aka the mutated Scorpion.

@FilmGuy7878 - Oh that's just great. Just f**king great! That idea just blew my mind and now I have to clean chunky bits of brains off my monitor and keyboard, and that's seriously going to cut into my Friday afternoon porn watching time. Thanks a lot asshole! Next time try to think of how your actions could affect others when you're being all clever and creative!!!

@Luigi - Yep, live action though not animation, and in B&W too. Explore the 1930s MCU... maybe a cameo from a 9 year old Steve Rogers or something....

Considering Noir was one of the standouts of the first film, either Cage is lying to hide the surprise or he’s only in Part 2. He’ll definitely be back for sure.

Makes sense not to bring back every single variant from the first movie but at the same time this is pretty disappointing. Maybe they've actually got the character in it and they're gonna ask him to do the voice performance at the last minute? Probably not but I'll hold out hope 😅

Maybe MCU has some bigger projects lined up for him instead... Avengers vs Ghost Rider, just like they did in #214 when he whupped them in their own book....

I love Cage, but his voice over work is surprisingly not good. I dreamed for year of an animated Superman Lives straight to DVD movie with Nic and the planned cast voicing. But I'm not interested anymore.
