Some more promo art for Sony Pictures' upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel has found its way online (via Toonado.com), and it finally shines the spotlight on a character who has largely been left out of the marketing up until now.
We had been led to believe that The Spot was going to be the animated adventure's main villain, but the most recent trailer (see below) seemed to indicate that he'd only be a minor baddie who Miles Morales doesn't take particularly seriously.
From what we can gather, Spider-Man 2099 is going to be the most pressing threat, but we have a feeling the Spot will ultimately play a larger role than the teasers suggest, and may even be responsible for the Multiversal predicant our heroes find themselves in.
Check out the new artwork at the link below.
"In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Manis catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most."
The confirmed voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.
