Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is fast approaching and Sony Pictures has revealed a new still (via Toonado.com) from the highly anticipated sequel.

In that, Spider-Man 2099 can be seen making his way through what appears to be Nueva York, but upon closer inspection, we see Spider-Gwen in hot pursuit. Based on what's been shown in the trailers, she and Miles Morales will reject whatever Miguel O'Hara is planning for the Spider-Verse, turning that fan-favourite hero into an unexpected antagonist!

Last year, writer and producer Chris Miller said, "[Spider-Man 2099 is] not the villain of the movie, but he's sort of an antagonist to Miles because they both think that what they're doing is the right thing."

Fans have high hopes for the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follow-up, and we're definitely excited to see how Spider-Man 2099 factors into this story. Visually, he looks amazing, and we're sure he and Miles will eventually end up fighting side-by-side here!

Take a closer look at that newly released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse still below.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

While lots of rumours are swirling, in terms of confirmed cast members, the movie will star Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld. Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Written by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

@MyCoolYoung - I didn't see her at first either, but there is somebody else there. They're small, and it looks like Gwen, barely, but it's hard to tell.

Still glad Sony dared to do something differently with the animation, because this (whole movie) looks great. This wouldn't have been as cool if it had that Pixar/Disney animation

That looks like the bit in the trailer where he's chasing Miles and Gwen.
