Now the pandemic is finally in the rearview mirror, we're seeing studios once again increasing the release window between a movie's arrival in theaters and its eventual Digital/Blu-ray debut.
However, what was once a traditional 90-day window is no more, with some titles available to watch at home in a matter of weeks and others taking months if they've found a greater level of box office success (James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water certainly took its sweet time, for example).
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been a hit, but with the likes of Barbie and Oppenheimer on the horizon, it appears Sony Pictures - one of the few studios that stuck with theatrical releases during COVID - is finally making plans for the sequel's home entertainment release.
According to a listing on Best Buy (via Toonado.com), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Blu-ray from September 5.
This presumably means a Digital debut is imminent, though the studio has yet to share any official comments. We also don't have any news on special features at this stage, though we'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.
But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
The movie stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.
