Spider-Man is spitting mad. Tobey Maguire is upset with the August issue of Playboy where in a Q & A he talks about attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Specifically, Maguire is quoted as saying this about AA: "The program just makes sense to me."

Maguire tells GLARE, "I didn't expect that to be in the article. That was off the record with the journalist and the journalist betrayed me."

He adds, "I don't think it's a secret that I've been sober since I was 19. It's in half of the articles done about me. Now, it's like this has become some big revelation even though it's been out there for years."

What about reports early on that he was not going to suit up and play Spider-Man again? Gossip items said Maguire was simply holding out for more money. "That was an invention of journalists," he insists.

Maguire says an old lower-back injury was the bone of contention, since this movie elevated the level of stunts. "So, yes, I questioned if I could do it," he says. Tests, he says, proved he was up to the challenge.

Maguire says the film, due next summer, is "going to be better than the first." He also stars in the anticipated "Seabiscuit," which opens July 25.
