MOVIEBOB: Were Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN and SPIDER-MAN 2 Really That Good?

Hit the jump to watch MovieBob's whopping 1-hour long thesis on the original Spider-Man trilogy (or 'duology' with Spider-Man 3 wisely omitted) and just in case the good folks at Sony file a bogus copyright claim/takedown notice on the video as is often the case with works of criticism, this article includes other MovieBob videos that'll eat up several more hours of your time. Check it out!

SPIDER-MAN 2 (2004) is one of the great comic book films, along with THE DARK KNIGHT, IRON MAN, SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE (1978), X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, etc.

Easily the best SPIDER-MAN film to date and it will probably be better than the 2017 reboot (at least according to my instincts; it's obviously too early to determine that and simply setting a film in the MCU doesn't automatically make it a masterpiece).

My second favourite SPIDER-MAN film is 2012's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. 2002's SPIDER-MAN is close behind. The worst SPIDER-MAN film is the awful SPIDER-MAN 3.

All 5 films were good to me. TASM 2 & SM3 were okay, they get WAY too much hate imo.

As much a I loved X-Men and X2, I think Spider-Man 2 was the first film to really crack the CBM code - Characters, Story and Action. Sounds simple, but how many bad films forget to include at least one of these? Or all 3 (I'm looking at you Fant4stic - no characters, no story, no action - I mean, seriously).

I think all the great CBM films since Iron Man/The Dark Knight have a lot to thank Spider-Man 2 for.

Yes both movies are great and some of the greatest CBMs of all time especially Spider-Man 2. In fact on the Mount Rushmore of CBM I would place Spider-Man 2 alongside Superman the Movie, Dark Knight, and The Avengers for not only how great the movie is but it's impact on the genre.

They were not good. Campy, feel-good garbage.

"...when you look in her eyes and she's looking back in yours..."

Bullshit.
