For what felt like an eternity (but was really just a few short months), it appeared Tom Holland's Spider-Man would be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, Disney and Sony Pictures were able to work things out, and it was revealed that the wall-crawler would stick around for one more solo movie and a cameo appearance in a future Marvel Studios project.
The Hollywood Reporter recently asked the Spider-Man: No Way Home star whether he knows which MCU movie he's slated to return in, but Holland was quick to clarify things.
"Yeah, that’s not accurate at all," he stated. "The new deal that was struck up was this understanding between the two studios that should Marvel want me to appear in one of their movies, then it would be an open conversation. I don’t think it’s as black and white as, 'I have a three-picture deal with Marvel and a three-picture deal with Sony.'"
"It’s just this open conversation and open dialogue between Mr. Iger and Mr. Rothman."
Unless Holland is deliberately trying to throw us off the scent, it appears his Spider-Man future isn't as set in stone as we thought. Some believe he's legitimately keen to move on from the role, though it feels a lot like this could be a public negotiating tactic to secure a deal that reflects how valuable Peter Parker has become to both Disney and Sony in recent years.
Only time will tell what the future holds in store, but for now, it sounds like the actor is going to take a well-earned break from playing the webbed wonder.
