OK! Magazine Reports Zac Efron Will Be the Next Spider-Man

According to UK based OK magazine, Zac Efron has been hand-picked for the role of Peter Parker by no other than Tobey Maguire himself and he's got the part of our beloved web-slinger.

Posted by OK magazine some Spidey quotes :

Zac Efron to be the next Spider-Man.

Zac Efron is set for £9m pay day.

High School Musical star, Zac Efron will take over filming later this year.

Zac Efron will take over from current spidey Tobey Maguire.

Producers believe Zac Efron will bring a new fan base to Spider-Man.

OK magazine is reporting Efron is set to nab a whopping £9million pay day as he dons the trademark red & blue spandex as Spider-Man.

They are also saying the reboot movie is due to start shooting later this year and scheduled to be released in cinemas by 2012.

Spider-Man Tobey Maguire, 34, after quitting the franchise, a studio insider revealed: "After dumping Spidey, Tobey then came to the rescue by recommending that Zac should take over his role."

The Spider-Man Producers believe that Efron, 22, has a massive teen following, which will bring new fans to this new Spider-Man Ultimate reboot franchise with his starring as the red and blue spandex clad superhero and alter ego geeky Peter Parker.

They have also expressed interest in reuniting Efron with gal pal and co-starer of "High School Musical" fame, Vanessa Hudgens. She's hotly tipped to replace Dunst as Mary Jane, Peter Parker's love interest and their source added: "It would be a great coup to land her as well. The franchise would be revitalised and transformed by two of Hollywood’s most gifted and fast-rising young stars."

Thanks to OK magazine for the heads up and their link is below.

This is horrible if it's true, I don't want to be in the cinema sitting next to 14 year old girls with Zack effron tshirts who shreik with excitement everytime he utters a word.

If true this is a grim day for CBM fans everywhere.

Yeah its like that UK SUN tabloid (remember CATWOMAN), i could believe it, if it was just EFRON news, maybe some kind a truth to it, but wouldn't worry too much about HUDGENS though, no way they'd be both in it!!

UNMASKED @ : D

MULTI @ Ya right, only connection to EFRON is with SPIDEY is working with BENDIS (creator of ULTI-SPIDEY) both doing the movie FIRE!

Damn, should've put that side-note in, forgot about that LOL!

Yeah everyone, i would only take this with a very small pinch of salt, just like any of the IMDB stuff!

I can see Zac, he deserves a role that will give him more credit from the male population. But lets first see how well he does in "Fire".

Oh and obviously this is false, Hudgens as Mary Jane that would never work IMO.

Well, that would be God awful. Peter Parker is not a pretty boy, he's a dork. I can see why they'd try to attract a younger audience, cash money, but I doubt I'd go see something like that. @ Ror, I'm sure Effron would taste like tofu and Abbazabba. Not appetizing.

Someone needs to point out to the producers that the "massive teen following" that Efron has is teen and "tween" girls, who for the most part have very little interest in superhero films.

Besides, as we've pointed out here before many times: Parker is NOT a "pretty boy" OR part of the "in crowd". He's a science geek, and an outsider. You would need to do a serious makeover on Efron to make him even POSSIBLY look like a geeky outsider. And if you do that, you lose his "massive teen following".

Honestly, until I see a press release from Sony themselves confirming this, I'm treating it as just another internet rumor, and another opportunity to voice my adamant opposition to this casting idea.

Really just because Efron was in a musical aimed at tween girls does that really make him a horrible choice? I mean c'mon, just about every actor has made horrible movies in their lives. You don't start acting and go right into a big role, you start out with piddly ass roles untill you get a break out role, which in this case just so happened to be some tweeny bopper [stuff]. This guy might turn out to be a terrible Peter Parker, but he might be an amazing Peter Parker. Whether he's cast or not you know you're going to see it.
