Production designer Mark Friedberg has revealed some interesting new details regarding The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Amongst the rather predictable information, Mr. Friedberg reveals some unique and interesting details regarding the film's setting and the origins of the films villains. Saying that the film takes place during the Summer time, the production designer also reveals some very cool details regarding Paul Giamatti's Rhino.

Some Easter Eggs:
As a designer, I steal regularly - that’s what we’re paid to do. Marc [Webb] knows a great deal about it. He had a background in it before he even did the first movie. His version of the Spider-Man world is something he invented, so there are key places and key elements along the way. Sometimes they’re quotes - times on a clock can refer to a number on a comic book.

On Electro:
He [Electro] was an interesting character. I think, in general, even though there’s so much digital going on, we try to make everything as practically as we can. So his costume is also born of an Oscorp issue, that the costume has to do with the fact that the people working on him had to deal with an electrical thing, so it’s supposed to be a vulcanised rubber. We didn’t want him to look as though he’d gone to the superhero costume shop, which is sometimes what it looks like. We tried to have it have a story as well as look cool and strong.

On Rhino & His Origin:
Rhino is Alexei, a Soviet. And I think one of the ideas was to contrast the futuristic titanium or polycarbonate materials of some of the other Oscorp technology, and the fact that a lot of these costumes are involved with your body - the systems of your body. I’m not just putting on armour, it’s part of my body. Rhino is kind of a throwback character, in a way, almost a period character, which isn’t meant to be a knock on Russia, but rather quoting the sort of bulky, massiveness of the Soviet Union.

On The New Suit:
Yes, it is. It’s a little more like the ones in the earlier films. He has the ability to wear headphones, and he has a little more tack in his wrists than he used to have. He can do a little bit more. The funny thing is he always ends up in his garage, tinkering. He’s a science student.

On The Setting Of The Film:
The story is mostly set in spring and summer, so we were on stage a lot through the winter, but now we’re in the nice weather, we’re outdoors on the weekends. Then there are two more stage parts of this to go. About three weeks.

Glad to hear The Rhino's suit is gonna be "more than armor".

I like the idea that Rhino is a small character. To me, feels like an actual comic where Pete is on his way to do something, but oh wait, he needs to stop and deal with a villain on the way.

I hope this is The Dark Knight of the rebooted Spider-Man movies, but something still has me worried.

Even though I did enjoy TASM, only had a couple issues with it.

Wasn't there something he said about time being a theme in this next movie?

I thought I saw an article during Comic Con that he said even the very beginning of the movie begins with a clock or something along the lines of that?

And yeah, genius. I like that idea too.

Maybe from the beginning we'll know if Gwen bites the dust or not just by looking at a clock, lol...

Description of Electro's look was pretty clear but the explanation about Rhino was very unclear.

I think the suit will be like how Batman changed his suit in The Dark Knight. Spiderman will probably want more agility and freedom so he makes a NEW suit.

@Trav watch it us Travengers will assemble if you start bashing.

And calling it the Fart Knight Trilogy is unfair because even if you don't like them the films all had good cast, scores, cinematography and directing. They're all very good.

I wish they would have kept the material they used on the first suit on the second suit. Would have made the jump seem a little less drastic. But I'm not producing the movie so I guess I can't say much.
