Kirsten Dunst Isn't Sure The World Needs Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN 4- "I Don’t Think We Need That"

While rumors persist that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are set to return for a Marvel Studio's produced Spider-Man 4, actress Kirsten Dunst doesn't seem sure that's a good idea.

Will Tobey Maguire ever return for a solo Spider-Man movie that picks up from where Spider-Man 3 left off?

The usual rumor mongers would sure like you to believe that's in the works but one of the film's stars isn't sure that's what the world needs right now.

Speaking to IndieWire to promote her upcoming release, Civil War, actress Kristen Dunst gave a measured reply when asked about returning to play Mary Jane Watson in another Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movie.

"I don’t think we need that. I don’t know," said Dunst.

"It was so long ago. I just don’t know how they would, what the story would be. I don’t know. It seems like … I don’t know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?"

Recently, Dunst revealed that the reason she didn't appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, was because she wasn't asked to reprise her role. However, she would have, if asked.

The other major rumor running rampant at the moment is that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will appear in Avengers 5 and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. If a full-fledged sequel to Spider-Man 3 isn't in the cards, perhaps Dunst can cameo alongside Maguire?

As for why Dunst is suddenly popping up all over the internet, discussing a role she last played 17 years ago, it's because she stars in Alex Garland's Civil War, which opens in theaters today. The movie is garnering rave reviews and might be a serious awards contender this fall.

On her upcoming role, Dunst stated, "This movie feels like a fable to me — like a cautionary fable of what happens when people don’t communicate with each other. When nobody listens to each other, when you silence journalists, when we lose a shared truth."

Civil War currently has a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 85 reviews, with an average score of 7.8 out of 10. According to boxofficepro.com, the film is tracking for a domestic opening in the range of $20-$30 million and has a chance to upset Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as the #1 film in America this weekend.
