THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Screenwriter On Unanswered Questions

TASM2 Screenwriter update

Alex Kurtzman, one half of the writing duo that also includes Roberto Orci spoke with iamROGUE for the release of the Star Trek Into Darkness blu-ray and also touched on his work writing The Amazing Spider-Man 2. On TASM2, Kurtzman and Orci take over writing duties from Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves who penned the reboot. Addressing the sequel Kurtzman stated, "Well, it’s interesting because the first movie asks all these questions and what I loved about it in so many ways is that it didn’t answer them." There are quite a few fans around these parts that would probably say they disliked the film for that very reason but the reboot does have its fair share of defenders. Kurtzman added, "So part of what we were drawn to and intrigued by was wanting to know the answers to a lot of those questions. So the villains emerge from the a lot of unanswered questions at the end of that movie and none of them are random at all, they are all tied together by a theme, an idea, and I think they come from our curiosity about what was going on in the life of Peter Parker and his parents."

i loved the first one,i was never a fan of the raimi trilogy,it felt like he was trying to make a 60s spiderman movie in the modern age and it didnt work for me,but this oen does because it has emotion behind it and a sense of fun and the acting is great, peter parker is ver close to his characterzation in amazing fantasy 15 of this guy who is a social outcast with a chip on his shoulder its great

I thought the ASM was good but not great. 'Untold Story' was just a marketing gig. They're just making it up as they go along while ASM defenders are pretending that these guys have a plan.

tobey felt miscast to me as did kirsten dunst,i did like willem dafoe as norman and alfred molina as doc ock and the action scenes were well done but the movie had dumb subplots of harry having amnesia and so many other weaknesses, the only major thing i had a problem with in ASM was the lizard

I love this new franchise. Just as good as the first Spidey series so far. Let's hope that this third film is better than Spider-Man 3 though!

Going to have to agree with @ezio619 here. While I respect the Raimi's films for their importance to the CBM cause, they were really corny, and everyone did act like they were from the 60s...............

@Hotshot101 To be fair though, we never got the backstory of Peter's parents, specifically his father, in the Raimi series. In fact, to the general audience, TASM IS an "Untold Story" because we haven't ever really gotten Spider-Man's origin in the way that TASM gave us.

"Tobey doesn't change his attitude when being Spider-Man... Nor his voice. Also, the kids at high school should figure out he's Spider-Man. HE WAS SPEWING WEBS FROM HIS WRIST!!!"

I know. He should of flipped around on a public train spinning on poles and sticking to the ceiling. Oh wait, everyone would see hm. Never mind.

oldgreg-i agree, tobey never felt like peter parker, he felt TOO insecure, i know in the comics peter parker is insecure but he is not as insecure as tobey was while Andrew did feel insecure but he had a chip on his shoulder, i think spider man should be inspirational,i felt inspired by Andrew performance because of the emotion behind and the stuff that happens to him in the film is dark, his uncle dies, his sort of mentor goes insane, while tobey felt too like he was going by the motions in the film

I want to see Sally Field's Aunt May discovering Peter is Spider-Man. I think it make for an interesting dynamic at this point in the franchise and how it goes onto the next sequel.

some people say that the raimi films are as corny as the donner superman films and i disagree, sure the reeves superman films(they are only TWO!!) are dated but they have this epic quality to the mad Clark is likable and you get attached to him and SUPERMAN IS SUPERMAN the way he was written back then, raimis spiderman films were based on the 60s comics which is fine if you update them its not like richard donners superman that that is how superman was written in the age,now we had spiderman stories in which he had broken out of the 60s mold and had become modern and updated so having a spiderman movie with 60s sensibilities just did not work for me personally.

"TASM IS an "Untold Story" because we haven't ever really gotten Spider-Man's origin in the way that TASM gave us."

Yeah but it's basically the same story we just heard told again. Peter's parents are a small subplot that's dropped like 1 hour into the movie and then that end credits scene is just to show us that:"Oh yeah, that parents thing we promised you. We hope that's enough to get them to see our movie."

Dark Knight isn't a remake of Batman because the plot is completely different. Joker vs Batman is there but we don't know what'll happen. King Kong (2005) is a remake of the old King Kong film, even though the characters are different and the storytelling is slightly different. Why? Because it's the same story.

ASM is just the same: Bitten by spider...uncle Ben speech....fighting crime...the end. Oh yeah...parents....

I think both the old and New spidey flicks are pretty good. Both far from perfect...but great. This franchise has the potential to be great as long as the find some originality.PS, my single biggest complaint about ASM is the ending line. "Don't make promises you can't keep."
"Those are the best kind."

*facepalm*

I don't see why people must hate the old or new movies. Why take a side? Raimi is the like the original classic age Spidey while Webb is like the modern Ultimate Spidey. I enjoyed both takes. There doesn't need to be any arguments like :"RAIMI WAS TOO CHEESY" or "WEBB IS TOO UNNECESSARY." Yeah, Raimi was cheesy and Webb's take is unnecessary but that's it. They're too different franchises for different audiences. Raimi worked with cheese the way the original comics did but at the same time he told a heartfelt story that modern audiences related too. Webb essentially told a darker version of the same story which is kinda unnecessary but still enjoyable. I like both franchises. They have both have their merits and flaws, why can't we just get along?

Hotshot- i never really cared for the raimi films before AMS came out but te things you mentioned about being the same, there are some things that have to be kept though, him being bitten by the spider but its a different situation,Uncle bens speech should be in their, its in 616 and ultimate aswell, it is always there
