"The Hurt Locker's" Oscar award winning director Kathryn Bigelow turned down an offer to direct the relaunch of the "Spider-Man" franchise. Instead the job went to Marc Webb director of "500 Days Of Summer."

She will more than likely go to work on "Triple Frontier" for Paramount that she was committed to before "The Hurt Locker" even started being mentioned for an Oscar.

How do you think she would have done with the Spidey reboot?

Yah so now we got a figurehead director. I think we can guess that the studio only decided to get webb just so they can boss him around and turn the spiderman franchise into some money-making thing for the studios. The studios don't care for spiderman, they only care about making money. I guess Raimi made more decisions for the film, so they fired him, and got a director who will allow the studio to make all the decisions.

The Hurt Locker was a decent movie, but it wan't like Shawshank Redemption where I could watch it over and over. It just didn't have that punch. I am glad she turned down Spidey. She is slightly above mediocre in my book.

Haven't you guys figured it out yet? The next Spidey movies doesn't need a director.

...the studio directs those movies.

@Phinehas: HELL YEAH!!!! The Shawshank Redemption (and the Godfather) is my favorite movie of all time!!!!!!

She would have given an interesting take on Spidey... if Renner was ten years younger, he'd make a kick-ass Spidey...

I say good for her. I cant even get excited about a Spiderman reboot and I dont think it will do as good as the other Spiderman films. With all the exciting Avenger films and DC stuff that is coming out Spiderman reboot falls flat. Sony made a big mistake with trying to start Spiderman all over with a remake when there has been 3 films already so recently.

I'll have to disagree. The Spider-man franchise as it was had grown too big for its britches. It was over-bloated with no real direction or purpose. Introducing villians like the Vulture was showing its irrelevance in an ever-improving CBM market. A reboot provides a chance to incorporate it into a larger Marvel Universe, IMO.

@Phinehas My point was that I am not as excited about it as I am with the other CBM that are coming. Can you honestly tell me that you are more excited about the Spiderman Reboot then Batman 3, GL, Superman and the Avengers movies.

I think what they should have done was continue without Rami and done a Kraven and/or Lizard movie with Spidey as an adult and even continue with a new cast if they had to. A recast would have been better then a rehash.

Plus if I was Kathryn Bigelow and was considering doing a CBM I would want to do one that no one has touched yet like a WW or Flash movie.

Ah. I didn't get your point. Yes! Of course I want to see DC movies first.
But my point is that she's not really a standout director. I don't want her near Flash or WW.

I loved The Hurt Locker and both the movie and Bigelow deserved the Oscars...not sure whether Spider-Man would've been her sort of movie though..!

I wouldn't have minded Kathryn. At least she has a decent filmography. Can't say the same for the jag off Sony hired.

I don't think Spidey 1 and 2 was all that bad. Yes it derivated, but at least it maintained some semblance of essence of the character. Fox and Singer gave a realistic look to XMen (and oh boy, am I going to incur an onslaught of reasons from TheMyth why it couldn't be better) but failed to make it feel like the XMen from the comics. It was a Logan movie featuring Charles Xavier's students.

I reckon it would've been her kind of movie only if she could give Sony and the "Ultimate" treatment the boot.
