In 2002, J.J. Abrams' wrote a Superman movie that was going to be directed by Brett Ratner, but it was never-made. Ratner's first choice for the role of Superman/Clark Kent was Jude Law, and now Law has been asked why he turned down the role. “At the time, I really didn’t want to,” Law told MTV. “I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life being that guy who played Superman.”

Before turning down the role, Ratner had talked Law into testing out the Superman costume. “I go in the bathroom, put it on and look in the mirror, and suddenly, I am Superman,” Law said. “And it is an amazing costume. My chest pops up and the music comes on… That was it. I got it out of my system. I took it off, put it in the bag, and was like, ‘I’m not going to do it.’”

For Law, who is a self proclaimed comic book fan, wearing the costume was enough to satisy his interest he didn't "need for the rest of the world to see" him in it.
