While speaking to People.com about his new movie, Mr. Irrelevant, David Corenswet expressed excitement about returning as the DCU's Superman in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow, which recently wrapped production.
“It’s a lot of fun coming back for the second one. It’s sort of like coming back to summer camp where you know where everything is, you know where the bathrooms are… you recognize a lot of familiar faces.”
“So it’s a little more relaxed and a little more excited about the new stuff we’re gonna do,” he added.
When MOT was filming in Atlanta, set photos showed Superman's costume taking heavy damage during his battle with Warsuit Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), leading to speculation that the Man of Steel might undergo a wardrobe change at some point.
“The suit itself is a little bit different,” Corenswet confirms. “They re-engineered it to be slightly more functional and ready for a fight.”
We weren't really expecting Gunn to introduce a radically different costume for Supes in this movie, but there's a chance he will wear some variation on the black and silver Recovery Suit down the line.
Gunn recently took to Threads to announce that he has completed an assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow, and never one to allow himself much of a break, the DC Studios co-CEO has already started working on his next DCU movie.
Man of Tomorrow is shaping up to be a fairly jam-packed movie, with several other superheroes now confirmed to be joining the Man of Steel on his next big-screen adventure.
Though most are characters that were introduced in Superman (Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, etc.), James Gunn's DCU sequel will also feature the return of Blue Beetle (Xolo Maridueña) and the big-screen debut of Lanterns' John Stewart (Aaron Pierre).
And, of course, there is a lot of speculation that Adria Arjona has been cast as Wonder Woman, not the villainous Maxima as the trades initially reported.
Arjona confirmed that she filmed her scenes when the movie was "wrapping up" during a recent interview, which may support the rumor that her character - be it Wonder Woman or Maxima - will only have a minor role to set up her next DCU appearance.
"Great experience. We had a nice, little dinner to celebrate. David was there, and Nick was there. I was just happy that it happened as the movie was wrapping up, so we could celebrate the moment, celebrate the movie, and celebrate the reunion with James and Peter. It was really fun."
MOT will focus on the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) putting their differences aside and joining forces to defend the planet against Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).
Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Maria Gabriella de Faria (The Engineer) have all been confirmed to return.
Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
