Cameras are rolling on The People vs. Gorilla Grodd, but as best we can tell, there are no plans to link the upcoming TV show's lead with The Flash, his greatest enemy in the comics.
That's a little surprising given how much DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn loved 2023's The Flash movie, but for now, it seems neither Barry Allen nor Wally West are active in the DCU. However, a glimpse inside the Superman movie's Hall of Justice confirmed that their mentor, Max Mercury, was a publicly known superhero.
Now, multiple sources are reporting that Jay Garrick will be referenced in next summer's Man of Tomorrow. It sounds like this comes from something spotted on the movie's set rather than a mystery actor making a cameo appearance of any sort.
There have been rumblings for a while that Man of Tomorrow will explore more of the Hall of Justice—which was still pretty sparse when the Justice Gang moved in during the events of Superman—so we'd expect Jay to be alluded to somewhere inside that.
Jay Garrick is the original Flash, first introduced by DC Comics in 1940's Flash Comics #1. A college student who gains super-speed after inhaling hard-water vapours, Jay becomes the heroic Flash and one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America. Unlike later Flashes such as Barry Allen and Wally West, Jay's powers aren't initially tied to the Speed Force.
Recognisable by his winged helmet, Jay has remained a beloved elder statesman of the DC Universe, often serving as a mentor to younger speedsters. Following DC's frequent continuity changes, Jay has been re-established as a World War II-era hero whose legacy stretches across generations, making him a living link between the Golden Age and the modern DC Universe.
In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
