Michael Shannon Praises Henry Cavill, Zack Snyder & A ‘Mind-Blowing’ MAN OF STEEL Preview

Check out a brief chat with the actor behind General Zod in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel film, Michael Shannon, who had nothing but praise for co-star Henry Cavill and a preview of the reboot.

MTV News recently got a few words from Oscar-nominated actor Michael Shannon at the premiere of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, in regards to his role in Zack Snyder's highly-anticipated Superman reboot. Praising his Man of Steel co-star Henry Cavill's performance, the ‘General Zod’ actor says he's seen a rough preview of the film.

“I've seen a little bit because I did some ADR for the film. It's a very long process. Zack [Synder] puts a lot of time in post-production, like all his films because he's such a visual stylist, and there's a lot of computer-generated effects. But the little snippet I saw was pretty mind-blowing...and it wasn't even finished.”

“I always felt like I was in a scene with Superman. I never looked at [Henry Cavill] and thought that's just somebody trying to be Superman — he felt like the real deal. I really admire Henry's work ethic. I really haven't seen anybody in this business work quite that hard. Obviously it's a tremendous responsibility, and an intimidating one, to wear that suit. But he had the confidence and the work ethic to accomplish it.”

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Also starring Russell Crowe (Jor-El), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora) with Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Christopher Meloni (Colonel Hardy), Man of Steel hits June 14, 2013.

Michael Shannon hasn't ever been one for hyperbole, he's called movies he's in merely okay or "It's alright". This give me a lot of confidence.

WOW....A MTV video that played, that has to be the first time for that ever in my life, what a feeling.

Anyways - Exciting stuff, and you know what, the media actually seem more interested in this Superman movie than they were for Superman Returns. It is like MoS is getting looked at as possibly something to get excited about, which is probably due to the casting, names like Snyder and Nolan, and the overall look and feel we have seen.

So fingers crossed we get a great Superman movie.

Kudos to WB for being so secretive with the preview footage by now. Something should have leaked by now. Oh well. Trailer before the Hobbit please.

"to wear that suit"????

Uh, it's really not Superman's suit, is it? It's a rubberized body suit with Superman's logo.

Coming from such a talent like Michael Shannon, this is GREAT news! But I'm not surprised... This is what I expected.

Michael Shannon was always very real in interviews so this is really exciting.

I'm a Marvel guy, but I'm pumped for Man of Steel! I like Henry Cavill as Superman. A lot people flipped out when Zack Snyder casted Henry as Superman. I hope Man of Steel does well at the box office. I would like to see a trilogy. Main villians for the next two films. Here's my picks:

Man of Steel 2-Lex Luthor

Man of Steel 3-Doomsday or The Elite

this will be great, I have faith in Snyder for this one, hes one of the only directors that could get the right tone for this, supermans the biggest superhero of them all the scale of this film needs to be massive, a proper super hero epic

@ comicbookson TDKR had its moments but it was a shambles of a film, once the hypes died down and people stop looking at it with rose tinted spectacles it ll be regarded as nolans iron man 2,

I honestly don't think Lex should be a main villain ever again. He should be either a side villain or teaming up with another baddie. Not just him alone though. Definitely wanna see him in his suit though.

I think the more people watch it, the more they will like it. When I saw Iron Man 2, I didn't like it but the more I watch it, the more I like it.

@ComicBookSon: If anything the people who keep stating TDKR is 'amazing' like it's a fact should stop, because they're the ones causing the arguments. Like it if you like it, but don't try to tell the rest of us that it's amazing when it's not. Or you'll start an argument... :)

Anyway, very much looking forward to MoS - hopefully it'll put DC cbms back on track after the disappointment of TDKR and GL.

I just hope we get to see enough of Superman being Superman and not too much of all the origin and struggles with who he is. Some of it to build the character...okay, but don't drag it out too much.

When do u guys think we will get the second trailer for this? (third if u count the leaked comic one)

My guess would be that it will be attached with the Hobbit? Sorta makes sense if they follow the trailer releasing sequence as TDKR
