Laura Vandervoort, who will play Kara Zor-El on the seventh season of "Smallville," admitted to SCI FI Wire that stepping into Supergirl's red boots has been intimidating.

"I am just finishing the first episode ['Bizarro']," she told Tara DiLullo Bennett at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 28. "The first day I was shaking in my boots, literally. I was wearing boots [laughs]. But I'm not in the suit."

She said that her character will connect Tom Welling's Clark Kent more strongly to his Kryptonian roots.

"On Krypton, I was older than him," Vandervoort said. "He was a baby. We were both sent [to Earth], and I got trapped in suspended animation and didn't age. It's an interesting dynamic, because he's older on Earth, and he is telling me how to control my powers and be human and respect people. But I am explaining Krypton to him, things he didn't even know about his mother, who I was very close to."

Vandervoort is contracted for seven episodes of Smallville, which returns on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
