Smallville's Clark Kent Wearing His Trademark Glasses

Smallville's Clark Kent Wearing His Trademark Glasses

Is Smallville transitioning to the more familiar Superman mythos?

A fan asked this question about Clark wearing glasses as well as Superman wearing the primary colors.

Smallville Exec Sounders has this answer as posted by TV Guide:

Get used to the basic black,[]. "He isn't quite done with his suit yet," says executive producer Kelly Souders. "This whole season is the alter ego before he starts transforming into the [Superman] that we all know." As for the glasses, she says, "There's a flirting moment with a pair of glasses. I won't say that he's definitely got them on, but I would watch the next little run. You'll see it in the first nine episodes."

---
I guess we just have to accept that Smallville has its own mythos. If they are tyring to mesh it with the comic mythos that's fine, but I've already accepted that Smallville is a different animal.

And shouldn't this show be called Metropolis by now? I can't tell which show has worse writers, Heroes or Smallville

Yeah though @ DENN1S @ Everyone knows him as CLARK KENT without the glasses????

I thought about that at the very start once i was watching the pilot!

I reckon he should not even bother wiv the glasses now, coz he'll never be SUPERMAN!

MULTI: Couldnt have put it any better myself!

We've already seen the glasses thing so Im not going to soil myself with excitement over this news. I've also come to accept Smallville as something seperate...its just a pity that even as a seperate entity its still a mess.

Yeah, that's always been my one big issue. When he transitions to true dual identities, and is Superman instead of the Blur...how will people not be able to tell? I hate to think of the ways Smallville will try to explain that away.

Although I have been pretty happy with this season thus far...I just love the DC cameos.

BAMF @ Me too, the DC cameos are the best thing in SMALLVILLE luv em!!!!!

Becoz until then, SMALLVILLE was nearly as bad as that other CW show called SUPERNATURAL!! ; D

Bamf7: The cameos have actually been pretty good so far (though I cant help but feel they're only doing them because they've run out iof ideas) Here's the next cameo...lol! ;D

LEE: Sorry bud but Routh has already been cast as another comic book character...

...lol, seriously though he was a decent Superman so I wouldnt mind seeing him return - just with a better director! :)

LEE: Ha! Smallville hasnt been any good since Season 3 and some of Season 5! Its not even half as good as Supernatural! At least that show has one cohesive storyline thats run through five seasons and has developed the main characters! I swear, the Clark from SV season 1 is the same as he now is in season 9!

Smallville emphasizes what I've said before about prequels. Smallville, in essence, was supposed to be a "prequel" showing how Clark develops in to Superman. And like so many other prequels, the creator use it as an excuse to do whatever the hell they want, without having to stay true to the characters, history, or conventions.
Terrible show.

I've already had an issue with Smallville in regards to the current season, but I don't have a problem with the glasses thing. In earlier comics, no one really knew what Superman looked like. I distinctively remember a comic I was reading where Luthor had a small flying camera trying to follow Superman and get a good look at him. Superman knew he was being followed, turned and waved to the camera vibrating so fast that he looked like a "Blur". Kinda like the Red/Blue Blur! So if he starts wearing the glasses now, by the time he puts the red and blue tights on, everyone should forget that the guy who kinda looks like Clark in the red cape doesn't wear glasses, but Clark does.

i find this whole glasses debate quite humorous actually. people have made fun of the fact since the dawn of superman that his only disguise is glasses. there is no way in the world people wouldnt know superman was clark kent. its a laughable part of the mythos that has been lampooned in everything from saturday night live, to lois and clark, and beyond. now everyone is saying oh my god without the glasses how will he hide is identity? it was a ludicrous concept to begin with so being hung up on it now seems quite trivial.

LEE: Stop making an idiot of yourself - a few days ago you said that you had started watching it and were enjoying it! Before that you said that you never actually disliked it or Ackles!

Though as you are the guy who casts porn stars in CBM's, Aero advert models as Captain America and constantly calls anyone who disagrees with you "gay boi" i shouldnt be suprised that you're acting like an idiot...AGAIN!!!

SUPERNATURALS watchable, nothing more!

I gotta say I am not a fan of Supernatural...never got into it...and other than that, I only know Jensen Ackles from his crappy character on Smallville. I'm not a huge fan, but also don't really have anything bad about him either.

@Lee and Josh - Yep, I'm sure they are only doing the characters to help with ratings...but I'm enjoying them all the same! It actually sounds like the JSA will be done right (let's hope!) and I like the rumor of a possible appearance of Amanda Waller too!

body@ then what would be the point of making a movie or t.v. show of a comicbook character? just read the comics and all you'll ever get is source material. enjoy. as for crappiest show ever, i think your forgetting a little show called my two dads. that was clearly the worst t.v. show ever.

JoshWilding - 10/28/2009, 9:47 AM
LEE: I have a sense of humour - problem is nothing you say is funny! Just arrogant, rude and stupid for the majority of what you say! And if I were you, Id consider seeking help about this obsession with pictures of half naked men...it started off being oddly amusing - now its just odd!
