Stan Lee On Why He Doesn't Like Superman

"I hate stories that fool the reader. I hate movies that fool the public. Take Superman for instance. Superman flies, right? How does he fly? The man has no visible means or propulsion. Whenever Superman flies, he gets in a pose like this [demonstrates], and he's off. How? There's no engine, there's no jet, there's nothing. He's just flying. Now take Thor. When Thor wants to fly, we use a scientific principle. He has his hammer, he has a leather thong attached to his wrist, he swings the hammer around faster and faster, till it's going like a propeller and then he lets go of it. Well the hammer goes flying off into space. But the thong is wrapped around Thor's wrist, so he goes with it. So you have hammer propulsion and Superman who flies just because they tell you he flies."

Stan's rants are tongue in cheek, he's joking. He knows the entire genre is silly, including a lot of his own creations. It's just fun.

He needs to just shut up and go off into the sunset gracefully. He's definitely reached the 'crazy old man says stupid $hit' stage of his life.

@StarkAnthony That's not gonna stop a few people (understatement) from taking this to heart. A lot of the readers on this sight are a tad sensitive to opposite opinions.

Oh yeah, and Stan Lees version of Superman was garbage. Thank God he didn't invent the character. No one would know who Superman was.

lol, All the butthurt Superman fans. I don't care how Superman flies, but it's hilarious that people actually get upset because Stan Lee complains about something not "making sense" when he drew comics for a living.

lulz Stan being Stan. He has a point all the characters he created has some scientific flight system: Human Torch propelled by fire, Magneto in a magnetic field.

Then again he also created BlackBolt who flies via shits and giggles.

Batman beats Superman all the time???. What other story aside from The Dark Knight Returns (which is an elseworlds story)has Batman ever *beat Superman*. Even in that story, Batman needed the assistance of a gimpy one armed Green Arrow with a kryptonite arrow, and a friggin massive armored suit. Batman hasn't "beat Superman all the time", because they haven't fought all that much. Stan Lee doesn't know shit, and his comments are just proof that he's senile.
