Variety's Senior Writer , Marc Graser, has the scoop that Walmart will become "the first retailer to sell tickets to an advance screening of a studio film." That of course being for Warner Bros.' new film, Man Of Steel.

The mega-retailer has over 3,700 stores nationwide. They will have almost 1 million tickets to offer for the new Superman film, beginning May 18, at 8 a.m., for screenings scheduled June 13 (film officially opens June 14). That gives Walmart a healthy leg up on the more traditional competition which will be able to offer advance tickets three to four days later, May 21 or 22.

The 6,372 exclusive screenings will take place at 2,379 theaters, with consumers able to purchase up to four tix for either 2D or 3D showings in their area. Walmart will promote the early sales on Facebook and Twitter with #SeeSteelFirst. The amount of tickets available per store will be determined by their size and the cities in which they’re located.

To sweeten the deal, the ticket price will include a free code to pre-order a Blu-ray combo pack or HD digital download of “Man of Steel,” which will contain exclusive film content. They also will get a free original digital comicbook penned by “Man of Steel” screenwriter David Goyer. - Marc Graser

Man Of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder, from a script written by Chris Nolan and David Goyer. The cast includes: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Chris Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne, Julian Richings and Richard Schiff. Man Of Steel flies into theaters June 14th, 2013!

Cool pictures, but I'll probably be picking my tickets up at the local AMC, just like I did for Avengers.

At one point "opening night" was, you know, OPENING night. As in, the night the film opens.

Are these "open" tickets which you can go to any theater or are you required to go to a specific one? Because I don't want to have to drive across town when I can just go 5 miles from the Walmart across the street from where I'm at.

Well, that seals the deal for when I will go watch the film. I will definitely be waiting a couple weeks to avoid the Walmart crowd. :-P

The WALMART out here is hella ghetto. But then again, I haven't said shit.

On a some what related note, WALMART has that big ass bin of 4 dollar DVDs. They had the Wonder Woman animated movie in there- a film I borrowed and was surprised how good it was.

@SuperDan89 - Thanks, I realised they had, but the IMAX version of Man of Steel is a DMR, it's cropped and digitally upscaled for the huge screen meaning the picture will look slightly soft and not anywhere near as detailed and sharp as actual IMAX footage shot with actual IMAX camera's like with The Dark Knight. It's the equivalent of watching DVD's upscaled on a 1080p TV as opposed to Blu Ray.

This film will look its best on a normal screen without being digitally blown up.
