2x Academy Award-nominated director/animator Travis Knight received widespread critical acclaim for his directorial debut Kubo and the Two Strings in 2016 and this Christmas, he's going to bring some of that magic to the Transformers universe with his first live-action film, Bumblebee.

The new movie, which is set in 1987, puts the fan-favorite Autobot front-and-center as he embarks on the first of his many adventures on Earth. He'll be joined by a human cast that features Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 3), John Cena (Blockers), and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming), amongst others.

Since Knight will be the first director to helm a Transformers film in the post-Michael Bay era, Paramount Pictures has shared a sweet new featurette, spotlighting the franchise newcomer and revealing new behind-the-scenes footage from the set of the upcoming spinoff.

Watch the new "Meet Director Travis Knight" featurette below:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Bumblebee features:

Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie Watson
John Cena as Burns
Jorge Lendeborg Jr. in an undisclosed role
Rachel Crow in an undisclosed role
Pamela Adlon as Charlie’s mother
Jason Drucker as Charlie's brother

I gotta admit, this looks solid compared to all the other trash Michael Bay made. Looks fun and in the same vein as the first Transformers...which was the only one I enjoyed.

Do wish they reboot this franchise, but most likely won't happen any time soon.

Totally forgot this movie was still a thing - always wished they made the transformers less complex aesthetically. Get back to the more simple transformations and designs from the cartoon.

This movie seems like it will have a very "Iron Giant" feel to it.
Plus G1 Starscream looks AWESOME.

Love the design they chose for Bee in this film. Simplistic and not overly complicated like the Autobots/Decepticons looked in the previous films. I'm looking forward to seeing what Knight brings to the table.

Anything is better than Bayformers 2-5.

this looks good. Hopefully Bay is finally done with these films. They need a new tone and hopefully this is the start of that.
