Paramount Drops The TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Sequel From Their 2019 Release Slate
While audiences will get to see the Bumblebee spin-off film later this year, the sequel to 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight has been officially dropped from Paramount's slate of films for next year...
In 2007, the first installment in Paramount’s Transformers franchise was released and, despite a mixed critical reception, was a huge box office hit. While the four sequels to Michael Bay’s original film have managed to largely continue being successes at the box office, their critical reception has been on the decline.
As part of an attempt to correct their dwindling returns, Paramount assembled an impressive writer’s room to develop more stories for the franchise. However, their attempt to course correct didn’t pan out too well as evidenced by the release of Transformers: The Last Knight last year.
Still, the studio seemed confident moving forward with their plans for the franchise with both a Bumblebee spin-off and a sequel to The Last Knight in the works. Nevertheless, Paramount revealed (via Variety) that the Untitled Transformers Sequel is no longer a part of their slate of films for 2019.
The upcoming Bumblebee movie will still be released this December as expected, but Transformers 7 will be replaced by Tiffany Haddish’s comedy Limited Partners. What this shift in their slate of films means for the future of the franchise is unclear, but a rumor from earlier this year did suggest Paramount might consider rebooting the series after Travis Knight’s Bumblebee hits theaters.
