As Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan continues to set box office records across the globe, formally launching Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe, Prime Video and AGBO Films are getting the ball rolling on their own international shared spy universe.

Ahead of the launch of Citadel later this year, Prime Video and AGBO Films have commenced production on the first of their planned Citadel spinoff series, which will be set in India and feature Bollywood star Varun Dhawan (Jugjugg Jeeyo; Bhediya) and Tollywood star Samantha Ruth Prabhu (The Family ManYashoda) in the lead roles.

The directing duo Raj & DK (The Family ManFarzi) will serve as showrunners, directors, and executive producers on the ambitious series. They also co-wrote the screenplay with Sita R. Menon.

Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo are also onboard as producers and will oversee the development of the entire Citadel universe alongside Hunters creator David Weil. The Russos also directed multiple episodes of the flagship series, which will star Richard Madden (Game of Thrones; Eternals), Priyanka Chopra (Don - The Chase Begins Again; Don 2), and Academy Award-nominee Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First AvengerSpotlight).

Production has started in Mumbai and their shooting schedule is expected to take them to northern India, Serbia, and South Africa later this year.

An Italian Citadel series is also in the works, with Matilda De Angelis (The UndoingRose Island) starring.

@rychlec - clearly they’re making money with a franchise they can easily sell to studios around the globe. „Want to be part of the universe? Sure buy the IP“.

Sounds like a neat strategy to make a lot of cash

I never heard of any of this except the Russo brothers were gonna do it.

I may check it out. But will there be subtitles? I won't watch anything that is subtitled.

Cool they're already working on a Citadel shared universe franchise, but when can we expect the show itself?

One thing they need to stop doing is pushing COLORISM & FEATURISM in Bollywood.

There should be opportunities for dark skinned, and less Euro-looking Native Indigenous Indians,(like Dravidians & Sri Lankans) to be able to make it in Bollywood, also stop promoting "Whitening" creams trying make themselves "fair" which is NOT "fair" at all.
