Deadline is reporting that Malcolm Goodwin (iZombie; American Gangster), Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series, House of Cards), and Chris Webster (Most Dangerous Game; TURN: Washington's Spies) have joined the cast of Amazon's upcoming original series Jack Reacher, which is based on Lee Child's best-selling book series of the same name.
All three will be series regulars, with Goodwin playing Chief Detective Oscar Finlay, "
a Harvard-educated, tweed suit-wearing Northerner who recently relocated to the small town of Margrave to take a job in the Margrave Police Department.," Fitzgerald playing Roscoe Conklin, "
who was born and raised in Margrave and is a smart and proud officer in the Margrave PD. She is resilient and is intimidated by nothing and no one.," and Webster playing "
KJ, the spoiled son of businessman and town benefactor Kliner. KJ thinks the town and townspeople, especially Roscoe, belong to him."
Alan Ritchson (Titans; Smallville) will headline the series as the titular Reacher, following in the footsteps of Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Fallout; Top Gun: Maverick), who played the character in two feature film adaptations: 2012's Jack Reacher and 2016's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. However, unlike the 3x Academy Award-nominated megastar, the 6'2" Ritchson is a much better match for Reacher's imposing physical description (6'5"; 250lbs) from the books.
While not confirmed, the series is expected to serve as a reboot for the two movies, with the first season set to adapt Child's first Reacher novel The Killing Floor. Nick Santora (Scorpion; Prison Break; Punisher: War Zone) will serve as writer and executive producer on season one.
Christopher McQuarrie, director of the well-received first Jack Reacher film, will also serve as an executive producer, but it doesn't sound like Cruise will be involved in any capacity, which probably shouldn't come as a surprise.
