REACHER Officially Renewed For Season 2 After Blockbuster Three Day Launch

Well, that didn't take long at all! Following a massive launch, Prime Video has officially renewed Reacher for a second season, with Alan Ritchson and the same creative team set to return.

Just three days after its series premiere, Prime Video has renewed Reacher for a second season, with Alan Ritchson (Smallville; Blue Mountain State; Titans) staying onboard as the titular hero and Nick Santora (ScorpionPrison Break) returning as showrunner.

The news should come as a surprise to no one, with the eight-episode first season having become one of the streamer's top five most-watched series ever over a 24-hour period in the U.S. and overseas. It was also among their highest-rated original series, with subscribers scoring it with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5.

In a statement, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said, ““The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series. The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.

Santora adds, “The entire Reacher team – cast, production, writers, etc. – is so happy with the wonderful reception the show has received. Amazon, Skydance, and Paramount have been such fantastic partners and everyone is excited to roll up their sleeves and get to work on what will be a great Season 2.

While it's still-to-be-determined which direction the second season will go, season one was based on Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel Killing Floor, so an adaptation of the second novel, Die Trying, seems like a smart bet, but considering the liberties they've already taken, there's no guarantee the creative team will follow publishing order.

In addition to Ritchson as the lead, the season one cast featured Malcolm Goodwin as Oscar Finlay, Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe Conklin, Chris Webster as KJ, Hugh Thompson as Baker, Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, Harvey Guillén as Jasper, Kristin Kreuk as Charlie, Currie Graham as Kliner Sr., Marc Bendavid as Hubble, Willie C. Carpenter as Mosley, Maxwell Jenkins as Young Reacher, and Bruce McGill as Mayor Teale.

Reacher season one is now streaming!

Plan on watching this tommorow, heard it's a good throwback to 90s action movies. Good to see Alan Ritchson on a hit show, always liked the guy.

@CurlyBill - True, he is a talented, underrated actor

I know he has played Aquaman, Hawk and many people wanted him for Shazam, but if he becomes a bigger name ñ after this show's success, I wonder if he could be cast as some other superhero in bigger movies, maybe something in the MCU.

@SethBullock - Yeah, agreed. I could see hm as Marvel's Hyperion from Squadron Supreme (though I doubt Marvel will prioritize that group yet). Besides superheroes, Ritchson is my number 1 pick to play Johnny Cage.

@blitzkreg - Just finished it on Saturday. REALLY liked it. Think John Wick but with more brains... He's an ex-military investigator that solves criminal cases and brings villains to justice.

@blitzkreg - just imagine batman with his detective skill but a bit like Roscharce/Question with terminator body, with a twist of Jim Caviezel's Person Of interest character

Happy for this guy, I like him a lot. He was great as Raph in ninja turtles. He deserves the success.

@micvalpro - Agreed. I can see him have more roles in the future opened to him. I easily see him as my top pick for Johnny Cage in then next Mortal K. sequel

Awesome! Glad we got this announcement so quickly, season 1 was very good and super enjoyable, fastest I've binged a season of a show in a while.

Star Wars Andor has already announced season 2 as well. The show hasn't even aired. All we got is a title. But it does confirm something else for me. Much like Boba Fett isn't really about Boba, I think Andor won't be ALL about Andor, but the time period. That's bridging the gap between the prequels and the OT.

I think Star Wars is about getting that fanbase back engaged instead of trying to subvert expectations, and chastise the hardcore fanbase. I think they are playing it safe. That's a good idea financially, not sure if it's a good idea for expanding the universe.

But I know F*ck all about anything yet, so I'm just speculating. I do know one thing, the TV shows shine much brighter than the sequel trilogy films. Super excited for the future of SW

Thought the show is really good but always have an issue with stories about an SuperChad. This dude has no weaknesses, can solve everything, and is built like Superman.

@RitoRevolto - It starts out strong and is enjoyable overall but the last few episodes were really rushed and are a mess. Still much better then BOBF

My Favorite part (And by favorite I mean I hated it) The guy Reacher has the most trouble with in a fist fight is the scrawniest dude in the whole show.

@bobfunn - Haha that reminds me of a scene from Peacemaker where he gets his ass handed to him by someone half his size. I'll check out Reacher soon. Thanks!

I always thought if they want to make batman on a small screen or share a universe with Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, this guy can be the perfect batman/Bruce Wayne.
archangel3777
archangel3777 - 2/7/2022, 11:23 PM
@solskulldeath - Wow, he would REALLY be a beefed up Batman/Wayne akin to Batflecks. Time will tell. He is my top choice for Johnny Cage

True. I wouldn't mind him playing Supes in the future. Maybe even Hyperion or Sentry as someone suggested in this article's comments earlier. I personally see him as Johnny Cage as well.

But yeah, great show, good for Alan.

Ok, so it's good. But all I need to know is is this a solid show I should definitely check out at some point, or this show neccessary watching immediately kinda great?

I quite enjoyed the show. It's a simple concept executed quite well. I found the Reacher character to be approaching near-self-parody territory with the whole 'Sherlock Holmes meets the Terminator meets Kwai Chang Caine' thing, but it was all somehow charming enough to work. I just hope he gets an equally likeable supporting cast next season as he had in the first one.

Doing a book into a series (season) is so much better than a 2-hour movie.
I enjoy the slow Development, rather than attacking and throwing everything at me at once. With 24 more books to go, they have a lot of ideas to pull from.

Did anyone catch Lee Child’s cameo close to the end of the last episode?

Nice! Great show! Just keep the woke writers away from this one. They usually worm their way in like cancer in later seasons when a show is succesful.
