PREACHER Casts MISFITS Actor Joseph Gilgun As 'Cassidy'
"Yer Ma's a hooer!" In an inspired bit of casting, This Is England's Joe Gilgun has joined AMC's small screen take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's controversial Preacher comic as hard drinking Irish vampire, Proinsias Cassidy. More past the jump...
AMC's Preacher pilot has cast another lead role. Deadline report that British actor Joseph Gilgun (Misfits, This Is England) will join Ian Colletti (Arseface) and Ruth Negga (Tulip) as century old vampire, Cassidy. In the comics Cassidy hooks up with Jesse as he attempts to hunt down God, and quickly becomes his best pal... though he hides a few dark secrets.
The TV incarnation of the character is described as "the most wild-ass, bestest “bro” you’d ever want to meet. He may be 100 years dead but no one’s more boisterously alive than Proinsias Cassidy. An incorrigible mischief-maker, Cassidy’s up for anything — joyriding, bungee-jumping, bank robbing, peyote dropping. He’s also a relentless conversationalist with opinions on everything from religion to politics to pop culture to theories on why people are better able to tolerate the odor of their own flatulence."
Sounds about right. Gilgun will probably be best known to CBMers for playing Rudy in the final couple of seasons of E4's Misfits, and he will next appear alongside Vin Diesel in The Last Witch Hunter. It'll be interesting to see if he alters his strong Lancashire accent and goes Irish, or if this take on Cassidy won't be from the Emerald Isle at all? The only other major protagonist left to cast is the Preacher himself, Jesse Custer.
