DOCTOR WHO Debuts First Look At Ncuti Gatwa As The Fourteenth Fifteenth Doctor

Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor aired last night, and the episode concluded with Jodie Whittaker's 13th iteration of the iconic Time Lord regenerating into... David Tennant!?

Fans were wondering how Tennant's Doctor would factor into next year's new series, with many speculating that some sort of time-displacement or alternate reality adventure would allow him to return. Now, it's been confirmed that the Jessica Jones actor will be back for three new episodes as the 14th Doctor.

"What a lovely, lovely thing to get to revisit something that was such a wonderful, happy, significant time in my life," Tennant told BBC.com.

This means that Tennant's Doctor will eventually regenerate into Ncuti Gatwa's take on the character, who will officially be known as the 15th Doctor!

We also have a brief teaser for the new season, which gives us a first look at the Sex Education actor in the role.

Check out the promo below, along with the The Power of the Doctor's final scene and new stills featuring Tennant, Catherine Tate as the returning Donna Noble, and Neil Patrick Harris as the new series' mysterious villain.

They already destroyed the established mythos of Doctor Who by changing his origin in the last woke filled season.

So everything they do from here on out is inconsequential.

@TyrantBossMedia - just ignore that, like everybody ignored gallifrey being on a painting, ignored the movie and so on.

@TyrantBossMedia - considering they ignored and explained away the reveal he is half human….I’m sure they will ignore and eventually explain that away too.

@TyrantBossMedia - while I agree that this demystified a LOT and turned the Doctor into, basically, a god there have been so many retcons over the past few years that you know that this, too, shall pass.

So much potential. Used to love it in my day, was scary and exciting. Absolute trash now.

Good luck you're gonna need it! Timeless Child still exists so Doctor Who canon is garbage and I won't be returning after being a Who fan since the 80s for this stunt.

Spoilers for the episode.

The episode was the best episode in chibnalls era, which is to say it was fine. It still had a lot of problems, was overstuffed a lot of things didn't make sense and we still have questions that he is just ignoring.

But I can't deny that it's really fun. Seeing 1 and 5-8 was awesome. Especially seeing 5 and 7s reunions with their companions.

It was a unique idea, seeing all the companions at the end was nice especially Ian. And the last 10 or so minutes were really well done.

The regeneration especially. Yay I'm so happy to see David back especially since it seems they will do something interesting with him. Although it's weird he is officially the 14th doctor and Ncuti is the 15th. Guess they just like [frick]ing with the numbering at this point.

Overall Id say about 6.5/7 out of 10. I didn't hate it or was bored like most chibnall stuff. But doctor who has been way better in the past and I know if it weren't for the nostalgia stuff I wouldn't have cared nearly as much.

Of course @TheDoctor1225 got to know your thoughts mate.

Having Tennant comeback as a "new" Doctor is a huge mistake. Doesn't matter that it's only for the 60th special or that they are probably going give every possible sci-fi/fantasy in-universe reason for why this is only this one time thing that can't happen again. Now people who just want their favorite actor to return will never shut-up, when this gate has been opened.

Great pick for the role and can’t wait. So excited to see RTD back. Although Tennant will not be called the 14th doctor. Intermediary doctors don’t really count to the numbering (ex- 10 clone, War Doctor, exc.)

So yes, Gatwa will likely be referred to as 14

Haven’t seen this episode but will check it out. 13 run has been very rough and hard to get through. I feel really bad for Wittiker who got stuck with such bad material.

However with RTD back, I’m feeling optimistic about this franchise again.

Doctor who canon is really getting confusing. David Tennant is the 10th and 14th Doctor in name

AND the 11th, 12th and 16th Doctor in incarnation. Talk about confusing the regeneration numbering
MrDandy
MrDandy - 10/24/2022, 9:38 AM
@Nightwing1015 - lol, yeah. As I said in my comment, the numbering mostly relates to the MAIN actors playing the role. Not necessarily which regeneration it is. So Gatwa will be 14.
Radders
Radders - 10/24/2022, 9:39 AM
@Nightwing1015 - not to mention the War Doctor who isn't counted

Oh and the millions of pre Hartnel Doctors like Jo Martin's
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 10/24/2022, 6:09 PM
@MrDandy - Gatwa has already been confirmed as the 15th. And I think that's right. Tennant is hanging around for a good few episodes so he's very much gonna be the 14th Doctor.

Nightwing1015 - 10/24/2022, 6:10 PM
@Radders - Yeah the War doctor is what I was talking about with the incarnation stuff in the bottom line. He kinda screwed up the numbering. I could tolerate that but there was no reason to make meta-crisis 10 count as a regeneration it was just a stupid excuse so Moffat could be the one who solved the regeneration issue.

Have a feeling this is going to be one disapointing 60th anniversary

With who we know is coming back and so far the only confirmed returning doctor being Tenant, feels more like a Russel T Davis era celebration instead of a Doctor Who celebration

Obviously Christopher Eccleston is unlikely to happen under any circumstances but no Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi (Jodie must have filmed at least something)

This special gave the classic doctors decent roles, hopefully they are in the 60th

From what ive heard Tom Baker isnt in the best health right now, which is why he didnt show up

@dracula - I have a feeling we'll get at least a couple of other Doctor cameos, but yeah I feel like most of it will be rooted in nostalgia for RTD's original run from 2005-2010. I actually think Matt Smith might be back, at least in some small capacity, as I'm pretty sure he was back in the UK around the time they were filming the 60th and was even spotted with his hair styled almost identically to how he wore it as the Eleventh Doctor, which I don't think he's had since he left the show a decade ago. Could be a coincidence but at this point whether or not he returns I think I'd be equally surprised either way.

I have a theory though that the Fourteenth Doctor might be an unstable regeneration and that their appearance might change a few times throughout the 60th into multiple different previous incarnations and possibly even Ncuti Gatwa a couple of times before finally regenerating properly into Ncuti. So if that happens I'd imagine that would be how we'd see other Doctors, such as Matt Smith, possibly Peter Capaldi, and maybe even some of the classic era Doctors, rather than a traditional multi-Doctor anniversary team up story.

But yeah, highly highly doubt we'll see Christopher Eccleston again, unless he and RTD have finally buried the hatchet. And in fairness all of the above is just a theory so I'm probably completely wrong.

As an almost lifelong Doctor Who fan, and definitely moreso since the 2005 revival when I was a kid (I used to watch reruns with my dad before that) - the last season (Flux?) and the specials from earlier this year are the first time I've completely lost interest in the show.

I'm so glad this era is finally over, and I feel bad for Jodie Whittaker having such poor material to work with most of the time while also having to put up with all the sexist responses to her casting.

I will say though, having watched last night's episode, it was definitely one of the better ones of this era, and despite A LOT of the ideas being blatantly stolen from other stories, it still had some moments I genuinely enjoyed - The Master was great, the dreamlike sequence inside the Doctor's consciousness was pretty damn good, the Thirteenth Doctor's final moments with Yaz were actually quite touching, and I really liked how different the Regeneration sequence was compared to others since the show's revival. The rest of the episode was still a slapdash, convoluted mess but there were some great moments sprinkled in there.
