It Sounds Like Static Shock Could Appear In BLACK LIGHTNING; Arrowverse Crossovers A Possibility

Black Lightning co-showrunner Salim Akil has weighed in on the possibility of bringing Static Shock to The CW series and what will need to happen for crossovers with the Arrowverse to take place.

Black Lightning reaches The CW this Fall, but the series will not be set within the Arrowverse. It also focuses on a character who is a lot less iconic than the likes of Green Arrow and the Flash, but co-showrunner Salim Akil has revealed that another familiar face could make an appearance in the show.

That is Static Shock, a hero who himself has come close to the small screen a number of times over the years. "I love the idea of Static Shock, and in success, hopefully, we’ll be able to pull other characters in that way. So I’m holding out hope because I love that character." That would be very cool to see and with no other plans seemingly in place for Static, it would make sense for him to show up here.

As for the possibility of Black Lightning crossings paths with heroes from the Arrowverse, Akil added: "The storytelling is a little bit more political. It’s topical, and it’s a little grittier. It doesn’t mean that down the road there won’t be visits." Assuming the show succeeds, crossovers could happen then!

Why couldn't they have just made a Static Shock tv show? And why couldn't they have just already set in the Arrowverse, instead of making some BS reason why they're on another Earth?

@KWilly - Because the show was being shopped around on other networks.....I think originally FOX was looking at this show.

So hence why they could not do a direct tie in the Arrowverse. CW ended picking up the show.

@KWilly - Because They're basically saying that they don't know if the show has any staying power so if they put it in it's own universe then they don't have to explain why all those characters disappeared without a trace if the show doesn't succeed.

@grif - if it is hopefully it is set on Supergirl's Earth, if they aren't going to merge the universes they might as well set a few shows there so we can explore more of that earth

a Static movie would be ideal. With mature themes and good vfx.
CW won't do it justice.

Wow that costume! Reminds me of when all those bad super hero shows came out in the 90's.

Never cared much for Static Shock. It's good we get to see some black superheroes on TV though.

Rather see Static get how own show. He's a more compelling character imo. More interesting.

Hope he has a big role in YJ season 3.
