Taking to threads, James Gunn has revealed that the current plans for Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner in Superman: Legacy is for the cocky superhero to have a practical costume as opposed to CGI.
In fact, Gunn's answer about the status of Fillion's Green Lantern costume likely holds clues for what Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl and maybe even The Engineer will look like in Legacy.
Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn stated, "I can't remember ever having a CG suit unless it was on a CG character."
Of course, DC Comics fans are concerned that the DCU could repeat the same mistakes as Ryan Reynolds' 2011 Green Lantern movie, which infamously had a CG costume.
Per Gunn, fans can now put those fears to rest. And it sounds as if the DC faithful can also count on Hal Jordan and John Stewart in Lanterns also having practical suits if Gunn puts his foot down as DC Studios co-chair.
While the creatives developing Lanterns are unknown at this point, Gunn previously disclosed that virtually all of the DCU TV shows previously announced have showrunners and/or writers attached. If Gunn isn't developing Lanterns himself, it will be interesting to see if he allows the showrunner to push for CG costumes.
As a soft reboot of the DCEU, the DCU features an ambitious film slate that includes:
- Superman: Legacy
- The Authority
- The Brave and the Bold
- Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
- Swamp Thing
On the television side, highly-anticipated projects include:
Waller's showrunners are Christal Henry (Watchmen TV series) and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol). Meanwhile, Gunn is spearheading Creature Commandos and presumably coming back to oversee Peacemaker season 2.
Not much is known about the remaining television projects, Lanterns, Booster Gold, or Paradise Lost, unless you're one to put stock in a number of unconfirmed rumors, but as mentioned above, it sounds as if they all have creatives quietly toiling away on them, they just haven't been announced to the public yet.
Keep in mind, back when Gunn first revealed the slate for the DCU's Gods and Monsters: Chapter 1, it was also disclosed that he had put together a small creative team to help develop ideas which included Drew Goddard, Christina Hodson, Carver, Henry and Tom King.
Henry and Carver are working on Waller but don't be surprised if Goddard, Hodson or King's name gets tied to some of these other projects.
Superman: Legacy, the James Gunn-directed (and written) film stars David Corenswet as Kal-El/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
Additionally, Nicholas Hoult has been confirmed by Gunn to portray Lex Luthor in the film.
Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy is the first film in Gunn's reboot the DCEU. Filming is expected to begin this January. It's expected that more casting announcements will be made in the coming days.
