SWAMP THING Won't Be Connected To TITANS And The Other Live-Action DC Universe Series

The Titans and Doom Patrol shows may be set in the same world, but now it's been revealed that DC Universe's highly anticipated Swamp Thing will be a standalone series that exists in its very own universe.

The CW took multiple DC TV shows and created the popular Arrowverse, and now the DC Universe streaming service will see Titans and Doom Patrol exist in the same world, so unsurprisingly many expected the James Wan-produced Swamp Thing to also be connected to the new TV universe.

However, thanks to a report from CNET, we know the only thing tying Swamp Thing to the other live-action series will be the platform.

“We have no mandate to tie everything together," Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee said, providing an explanation for why the shows aren’t set in the same universe.

It’s currently unclear if Swamp Thing will be the only series disconnected from the rest or if the recently announced Stargirl program will also have this status, but we’ll likely get an answer to that question as the project continues to be developed.

@Imfunnyhow - ironic you should post that on my comment. I actually knew Jon personally years ago. I was college best friends with a woman who ended up becoming the secretary at Titmouse animation. When I worked at Sunrise Ford in Hollywood I would head over to Titmouse and chill in the studio then walk her home. I got to know the staff very well and especially Jon. I even went to my first Dethklok concert with the staff and was up in the vip balcony with Jon getting drunk lol the whole team were some of the nicest people you'd ever meet and Jon was such a down to earth guy. I was so sad to hear this.

He's gonna say "[frick] The Green" cause you know it has to be edgy.

It would have been nice to see him interact with Matt Ryan's Constantine, but it's probably better this way.

Well, that's a stupid decision. I can understand not connecting it to the CW shows or the DCEU but why not connect all the live action shows on your own network?
Im fairly excited for Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol but the since Titans trailer didnt hype me up for the show, Im going to wait to see trailers for those others before deciding whether or not Im gonna lay out the money for this.

@minusman - dude its 5 bucks a month for 15 months, there is no question here , at least do it for YJ :D

but in all seriousness i think we became so meticulous with all the super hero sh!t going on in movies that we forgot how lucky we are to have all these comic characters come to live action ; for me it dosen't matter how the show look ,i'm gonna watch it and enjoy the sh!t out of it cause i grew up reading titans and everything else (even if sometimes with the cw its cheesy aF, but that's the price to pay figuratively :p )

"We have no mandate" is not the same as "It's a separate universe." This article leaps to a conclusion. It could mean that a crossover isn't a concern right now and wouldn't fit the story.

@rabid - My thoughts exactly! Just because there's no mandate doesn't mean we won't see connections down the road whether it's the end of the first season or the second.

It's no different than Black Lightening not being connected, but we all know at some point the CW shows will show some connection.

@batmbl - The Swamp Thing comics didn't have any such mandate either, but they eventually crossed over. It shouldn't be an issue until the story leaves Louisiana, which is rarely.
