Star Wars.com has just officially announced that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Terminator: Genisys) will join Alden Ehrenreich (Han) and Donald Glover (Lando) in the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie, which will focus on the early days of the iconic space smuggler and his closest allies. Though her character is not named, the site does reveal that "Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures."

Apparently the likes of Kiersey Clemons, Tessa Thompson and fellow Game of Thrones alum Jessica Henwick were also in the running for this part.

The untitled Han Solo movie, helmed by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is set for release in 2018.

I'm not trying to start anything but I'm seriously asking... HAS there ever been a woman of color(don't care what) had a prominent role in Star Wars or has it always been white brunettes?

@Craigferguson67 -
We currently have Jyn Erso and Rey as key female characters. They may not be of colour, but it's a start. Plus, there's Maz Kanata, who is played by a black actress.

@TheFamousJMC - gotta give these sequels some sort of credibility, right?

@TheFamousJMC - I think the key word was "prominent." The answer is no. There hasn't been a woman of color in a prominent Star Wars role yet. Granted, there haven't been a lot of women period in prominent Star Wars roles.

@DerekLake - Mas isn't prominent? Or does her work not count if it's motion capture?

Oola had a prominent influence on me in my adolescence.

Why Han Solo though? Obi-wan would have been better.
