"I will take what is mine... with fire and blood."
Before Daenerys Targaryen fell victim to the madness that's plagued her family for generations and set out to reclaim the Iron Throne by any means necessary in Game of Thrones, her ancestors were the rulers of Westeros, and the monarchy was generally regarded as fair and benevolent - until civil war erupted and plunged the kingdom into chaos.
HBO's prequel series, House of the Dragon, will chart the rise and fall of House Targaryen, and this new poster spotlights Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen along with one of the fire-breathing beasts of the title.
In addition, the first official tie-in merchandise for the show has been revealed, which includes Funko POPs of the main characters and Syrax the dragon.
We should get another trailer before the show premieres this August, but for now, check out the new poster along with the first teaser below.
"The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm."
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders) as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.
