It was recently revealed that HBO is in the very early stages of developing its first Game of Thrones sequel. If it comes together (many of their planned spinoffs haven't), the series will revolve around Kit Harington's Jon Snow, a character who we last saw heading north of The Wall after being exiled for killing Daenerys Targaryen.
He did so for what he felt was the greater good, of course, but time will tell whether his decision was the right one. The vast majority of fans certainly don't seem to think so, and Dany's death at Jon's hands remains one of the final season's most divisive moments. Regardless, there's still a lot to explore with this character, and it seems the untitled spinoff is indeed moving ahead.
During an interview with BBC News (via SFFGazette.com), Harington's fellow Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke dropped quite the bombshell about the series. "He has told me about it. And I know it exists. It's happening," the actor confirmed. "It's been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he's in it from the ground up."
"So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens," Clarke continued, "is certified by Kit Harington." As for whether she could factor into the show in any way, the Secret Invasion star quickly responded, "No, I think I'm done! [Laughs]"
In the same interview, the actor admitted that she's intrigued by this summer's Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon. Saying she's "fascinated" to watch the story take shape, Clarke added: "It's going to be weird as hell. I'm going to watch this as a fresh viewer because it's [set] a be-jillion years before our show, so it's going to feel different."
Clarke is clearly happy to move on from Game of Thrones, but we can't wait to spend more time with Jon in this corner of Westeros. The fact that Harington is playing a role in its development is new news, though it's a reveal likely to be welcomed by fans hoping to see one of the show's most beloved characters done justice.
