The Lannister Army Amasses For An Epic Battle In These New GAME OF THRONES Season 7 Set Pics

Thanks to photographer Rick Zornow (via Watchers on The Wall) we have some very nice snaps from the Los Barruecos set of HBO's Game of Thrones. The images provide a great look at the huge team of extras that will make us the Lannister army, with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) and Jerome Flynn (Bronn) also visible on horseback.

We're not certain who the Lannisters have gathered here to fight, but it's not like these guys are short on enemies heading into the show's penultimate season. Chances are it's either The remaining Tyrells, or maybe even a combined Tyrell/Martell force.

We also have a much better look at Bronn and Jaime courtesy of Twitter user Adrián Alonso, and if you look closely at the latter's scabbard, you'll notice that the Kingslayer seems to be sporting Joffrey's Valerian Steel sword, Widow's Wail.

Pretty sure they'll use the Steven Jackson track of multiplication of extras to give that mass look

Well, of course they are going to CGI in more troops, but they really need some better consultants to tell them a logical spot for a battle. If the general on the other side tells his own troops to attack such a position, then he DESERVES to be defeated.

Military history, especially pre-20th century, is replete with retreats and withdrawals in the course of a campaign to find good ground upon which to launch attacks, and also to defend.

This landscape is totally unsuited for a battle, especially one that will utilize cavalry in any effective manner.

Nit-picking, sure. But it's like putting German troops in 1944 in grey tanks and halftracks.

@bropous - it's not a battle.

Based on the leaks they are departing in a convoy after sacking Highgarden and getting ambushed by Daenerys and her dragons.

@ICStoopedPeople - I had the entire season spoiled for me. Couldn't resist clicking on the link lol. I took the leaks with a grain of salt but the production photos and leaks keep confirming them. Lots of Dragon action next season

@bropous - My question is...where's the snow? But seriously, I think you could argue that its mainly because there are a number of incompetants in GOT who are commanders, as their were and arguably still are to this day. But especially in Medieval times. Not everyone is smart enough or has the resources to back up until they have the "high ground".

Im surprised that the Lannister army is still functional. The Lannisters are broke and with the Tyrell's no longer paying the Lannister bills, the only logical explanation assuming the Iron Bank storyline is still in play would be for the Lannisters to go to war with High Garden while (if rumors are true)the Iron Born battles Dorne.

@BlackHulk - You are spot on. Leaks confirmes this. Ironborn vs Dorne, Lannisters vs Tyrells

13 episodes left. Make em count.

@LordHarryLatts - They removed 3 episodes from season 7 and 4 from 8 so that they don't feel as limited budget wise and provide an ending that blows everyone away.

@Supes17 - Think Season 6 episodes 9&10 as production budget/quality for the final two seasons.

Are they still planning a movie for this when it ends on TV? I remember them talking about the idea of it, but not sure if it was actually happening.

@Menks123 - the latest I heard was a prequel tv series after this. I'm sure anything can change at this point though.

@Menks123 - HBO doesn't want to do a movie because it will alienate their subscriber base. If anything, it would be a straight-to-HBO movie, so like a really long, higher-budgeted episode.

It's Valyrian Steel, not Valerian.
Valerian is the name of an upcoming scifi movie from Luc Besson.
