HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Set Photos Reveal A First Look At Rhaenyra And Daemon Targaryen

Production officially kicked-off on House of The Dragon earlier this week, with HBO sharing some behind-the-scenes images from the first table read. Now, with principal photography officially underway, the first set photos have found their way online.

The snaps show main cast members Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith filming a scene on a beach in full costume and sporting the unmistakable silver locks of their Targaryen characters. Smith plays Daemon Targaryen, while D'Arcy portrays his wife (and niece... yes, we're back in Westeros) Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Check out the photos along with a set video below.

It was recently announced that Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno have joined the cast as Ser Criston Cole, Otto Hightower, Lord Corlys Velaryon, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Mysaria, respectively.

They join Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes, The World's End) in the lead role of King Viserys Targaryen, and Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower.

House of the Dragon is being developed as a 10-episode first season, co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony). Condal also wrote the script with Sara Lee Hess, and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik. The latter will direct the pilot and additional episodes.

House of the Dragon is set for a 2022 premiere.

"Smith plays Daemon Targaryen, while D'Arcy portrays his wife (and niece... yes, we're back in Westeros) Rhaenyra Targaryen."

They really couldn't help themselves huh?

Anyway, the only reason I'm slightly interested in this is the cast. D'Arcy did a solid job in Truth Seekers.

Do I really want to watch a series of inbred white haired pansy hillbilly dragon riding, sleazy, small dick, posing cock weasels and fight over a chair?

I couldn't give less of a shit about this show. Not because of the amazingly bad final season. But, because I don't give a damn about this story or setting.

Wow. Not much progresses in 300 years in this universe does it? Given that only a 100 years ago we were all using horse and carts to get around :-)

Why in seven hells did they want so desperately to end the series if they would do more spin-offs anyway?

I have no proble with the series finale per se, but how they managed to get there. The story easily could have lasted 2 season, 10 episodes each. But they wanted to ended so badly in only 6 episodes so they can move on, to do what? more GoT spin-offs? Doesn't make any sense.

I don't hate the series though, i'm rewatching it for about the fourth time, and i still enjoy it.

@LoganMjolnir - It was the showrunners that wanted to end it, not HBO. HBO's mistake there was not firing them, it should have been obvious they didn't want to keep working on the series anymore & just wanted to end it quickly for the sake of completion.

@LoganMjolnir - Bc they were getting to make Star Wars and then they lost that after public perception turned on them anyway

@LoganMjolnir - Martin thought they should have made like 10 seasons, I guess he is not too happy with the way it ended, but it also seems he is unable to finish the damn books with a similar but better ending.

@SethBullock - There was going to be 10 seasons before dumd and dumber wanted to leave and finish it fast. I hope those two idiots will never work for some high tear series.

Crazy to think his character is just 3 years younger than Considine's.

I’d be way more excited had they finished off the main series properly and not rushed it in 13 episodes. We’ve got lots of upcoming fantasy series with Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings on the horizon. Hopefully those are great. Maybe this one will surprise but it is low on my anticipation list

@MrDandy - I'm planning on rewatching this series. I watched it up to season 6 back in 2018 then stopped cuz I stopped trying. Haven't seen season 7 nor 8. Should I even watch season 8 or save myself from disappointment? Which season or episode should I watch it to in your opinion?
MrDandy
MrDandy - 4/29/2021, 6:51 AM

@MarDCel - I’d watch the whole thing. Seasons 1-6 are some of the best tv ever produced.

Even season 7 and 8 are great in terms of action, cinematography, production design and some of the best best battles ever brought to screen. Really the two things that makes them suck is the writing as they no longer had George R Martin material to go off of, and the pacing since the creators were over the show and tried to finish it in 13 episodes rather than the offered 30. They completely failed and the writing is so sub par to the other 6 seasons.

Still I’d recommend watching all of it

@MrDandy - Thanks. I remember enjoying the shoe a lot but tbh I forgot all of it so it'll be fun to go through it again. I guess I was just worried about having all the time I spent watching the show be ruined at the end due to the terrible things I hear about season 8. I'll rewatch it fully regardless. Thank you.
