DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Wilson Bethel On The "Semi-Flirtatious Antagonism" Between Bullseye & Daredevil

In a new interview, Daredevil: Born Again star Wilson Bethel discusses season 2's evolving dynamic between Bullseye and the Man Without Fear...

The season 2 premiere of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with the Man Without Fear unmasked and about to be executed by the AVTF, before being saved by the least likely person imaginable.

If you haven't watched yet, major spoilers follow.

After Cherry endures a vicious beating at the hands of AVTF officers, Daredevil arrives to save his friend. He easily takes down the first group, but becomes distracted when he realises that Cherry is having a heart attack, and the reinforcements manage to incapacitate the hero.

Matt Murdock's face is exposed, and one of the cops recognises him as the "blind lawyer" before preparing to put a bullet in his head. Fortunately, Matt's secret identity and his brains are kept intact when someone with very good aim eliminates the remaining agents.

As Murdock regains his senses, a blade with the words "You're Welcome" engraved on it lands on the floor in front of him. Just in case there was any doubt, the crosshairs symbol makes it very clear that Daredevil was just saved by his mortal enemy, Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, aka Bullseye.

This act certainly appeared to signify that the assassin wants to turn over a new leaf, but can any redemption be found for a man who murdered so many, including Murdock's best friend, Foggy Nelson?

In a new video interview, Wilson Bethel was asked about his character's decision to save Daredevil's life, and describes their evolving relationship as "weird, semi-flirtatious antagonism."

We didn't really get the full picture of what Bullseye is planning in episodes 2 and 3, but - without giving too much away - that will all change next week!

Across eight gripping episodes, survival, resistance and redemption collide as the battle for the soul of New York begins," reads the season 2 synopsis. "In Season 2, Mayor Wilson Fisk crushes New York City underfoot as he hunts down public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil. But beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will try to fight back from the shadows to tear down the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and redeem his home. Resist. Rebel. Rebuild."

Seriously can't wait to have Dex back big time. The teases are nice but im ready for the main course. Such a scene stealer.

@HeavyMetal4Life - He's so awesome. Wonder if he and Karen will get a proper reunion. This 'making her a badass' vibe isn't working for me from what I can see. Never liked the character. Elektra should be his sidekick, not the junkie, can seemingly do any job lady who gets everyone around her hurt or killed.

@HeavyMetal4Life - same , the teases have been nice to build up intrigue imo but I want to see more of him now which I think we will starting in the next episode or 2.

@skyshark03191 - "hello Karen" would be so freaking sick.
I do really want Elektra to come back, but I also like the relationship Karen has with Matt right now, and I feel like her badass vibe is a natural progression for the charact3r considering everything she has done and been through.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Just never been a fan of the character even going back to the comics- there are other ladies they could’ve used in the role that would’ve made the show even better.

Episode 3 had sufficient DD action but the way they have to give time to all these loser supporting characters it's 90% characters I could not care less about

@0bstreperous - this is the biggest mistake they are making with the MCU version of these shows, far too many side characters that nobody cares about simply because they haven’t bothered to tell you their backstory so you have no investment in them. This where the Netflix shows were so good at storytelling and dragging you into each character’s world. With Fisk, Elektra and Bullseye you could see into their souls and understand why they were mad.

@Spike101 - Netflix shows were masterful storytelling JJ season 1 Luke Cage S2 and DD 1-3 all exemplary

This DD/Bullseye buddy cop thing is so ill-conceived. It's not just that it's lazy writing, it also shows that the writers don't understand these characters or their dynamics.

It worked for Punisher and DD in Netflix season 2 (and Born Again Season 1) but this is not that.
Even a Batman/Joker buddy cop thing would be easier to swallow.
ObserverIO

You can do it with Punisher, you can do it with Turk, you can even do it with Kingpin. But not Bullseye. It's tone deaf to even consider something like this, I don't care how begrudgingly the buddy-cop team-up is. That would only make it more fun the more begrudging it is. And the more fun a DD/Bullseye team-up the more tone deaf it actually is.

sorry * "Dex" not Bullseye. Cause he's Dexter now.

@ObserverIO - We gotta wait I think for the payoff. I don't think they're making Bullseye a hero or giving him redemption- he loves screwing with Daredevil, and he certainly isn't going to let anyone ruin his fun by letting someone kill him. Their rivalry is almost as deep as Batman and Joker. They are two sides of the same coin. As it is, I have not watched yet but am still waiting. So far what I have heard isn't exactly impressive.

@ObserverIO - I agree

@ObserverIO - Except Bullseye needs Daredevil to get to Fisk. He knows that Daredevil is the key to drawing Wilson out. As we see, Dex can get to Vanessa at any time. But he wants Wilson and he knows the key to that is Daredevil. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and in this case "Until I need you no more". Bullseye will immediately betray Daredevil when he gets his target.
ObserverIO

@SonOfAGif - Sure, I mean that's how the conceit of them having to get together has been written. But they didn't have to write any of this into the story of the show.

They could have done a number of other things instead. Maybe adapt Bullseye's role from the comics version of this story where Fisk has made improvements to Bullseye (which we even saw him getting at the end of Netflix Season 3) and part of this is making him more slavish to Fisk. He could then break free of this and turn on Fisk.

They could have written anything else that is more in line with the comics character.

SonOfAGif - 4/3/2026, 10:30 AM
@ObserverIO - With the way Season 3 ended, There was no way that Bullseye would work for Wilson Fisk again. Vanessa played Chess with Dex. She used him to kill Foggy and they threw the law to incarcerate him. If we go by what was written prior to Born Again, Dex had his back broken by Wilson Fisk, He had his crush murdered on the orders of Wilson Fisk, and his only "equal" in combat was never caught and allowed to walk free while he ended up in Prison. Dex wants Wilson dead.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 4/3/2026, 7:02 PM
@SonOfAGif - Unless Fisk found a way to control him, like tried to do in the Zdarsky run I mentioned. Fisk wanted the doctors at Ravenscroft to find a way to behaviorally modify Bullseye so he would be under Fisk's complete control. They settled on a cloning process, but Bullseye got wise and broke out, telling Fisk he was coming for him.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 4/3/2026, 7:03 PM
Cloning probably wouldn't fit the tone of the series but they could usew other behavioral modification techniques such as drugs and chips.

I see about 8 comments I can't see, so I'm guessing this one really triggered the homophobes. Bravo, sir. Hope he makes an appearance in other MCU stuff.

@Snorterism - I was hoping he would have broke the horns off of the Season 3 costume and painted a bullseye on the helmet and spray painted the suit navy blue with white accents.

@SonOfAGif - That would’ve been great and in line with his anal and OCD personality- the horn is cracked during a fight, he can’t help but file it and the others down and just goes from there.

I did think about Dex sending a knife with “You’re Welcome” on it to a blind guy so I’m glad to know it was etched atleast though I did like it by justifying to myself that he does love to [frick] with Matt so this was him just doing more of that but oh well.

Anyway , I have been enjoying the bits of Dex we have gotten so far and it’s due to him we got a Sister Maggie mention which I’m glad they addressed that she’s in Rome.

In regards to Jack Duquesne though . I enjoyed him in Hawkeye but I’m particularly liking him in this show given he seems more fleshed out as a character now so I hope he sticks around in this or shows up in other MCU projects sooner then later…

Also , I liked that they made him a good guy from the onset since his comic counterpart is someone who went from hero to villain and then back to hero again until his death in the comics!!.
