Legion continued its epic mindtrip tonight with an episode the further fleshed out David Haller's backstory, specifically moments from his troubled youth and his life before being institutionalized. We were also able to learn a little more about Haller's new allies and their intentions with him, which also shed some light on what mutant abilities some of them possess and teased the true magnitude of David's immense power.

Next week's installment will follow David as he seeks answers about his past while a new threat swiftly approaches.

Check out the new promo for "Chapter 3" below:

"Chapter 3" (Airs February 22, 10:00 pm e/p) - David searches for answers, while a threat looms. Written by Peter Calloway; directed by Michael Uppendahl.

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human.

Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

Legion features:
Dan Stevens as David Haller
Rachel Keller as Syd Barrett
Jean Smart as Melanie
Aubrey Plaza as Lenny Busker
Jeremie Harris as Ptonomy Wallace
Amber Midthunder as Kerry Loudermilk
Katie Aselton as Amy Haller
Bill Irwin as Cary Loudermilk
Jemaine Clement in an undisclosed role

@Pathogen - Equally as berserk as the pilot. The way Ep 1 ended had me worried they would tone the crazy down. They did not.

@CapnSquintyEyes - I ended up watching it. Its hard to multitask with this show and follow it completely, which is a shame because I always multitask. But I do enjoy it

@WYLEEJAY - Hoping it's Mojo and they get super-meta where he's [frick]ing with David to make a good TV show.

@CapnSquintyEyes -

I really want to see Mojo in an X-men film or show but this ain't the Mojo you know.

No way they would go there, it's just too much to bring in other worldly TV shows run by alien creatures that want to produce a TV show on top of the government trying to catch and/or kill David and the mutants, on top of trying to figure out who David is and the truth about his past. That would be overkill.

This is likely an amalgamation of Mojo and some other telepathic villain(s) spying on David or just a part of David's own fractured psyche that looks very similar to Mojo but isn't really the comic book Mojo.

@WYLEEJAY - Thinking it may be Shadow King

@CapnSquintyEyes - First thing I thought was Mojo. Too much of a coincidence? Someone on that production team had to have noticed, even if it wasn't deliberate.

@MattBellissimo - Hmm. Shadow Kings possible. Definitely some liberties taken. He does look Mojo but I don't see them trying to get something that different so soon.
