David Slade has signed up to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming series
Powers, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Perhaps best known for the movies
30 Days of Night and
The Twighlight Saga: Eclipse, Slade also has some pedigree in television having directed episodes of NBC's
Hannibal and AMC's
Breaking Bad.
Set in a world where superpowers are abundant,
Powers follows the story of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, whose job it is to protect the normal folk from people with superhuman abilities or 'Powers' as they are known.
Slade will direct the first two episodes of the series which have been penned by Charlie Huston (The Smoking Gun Presents: World’s Dumbest) and both will executively produce. The series is exclusive to Sony Playstation Network and is set to premiere in December.
Powers is produced by Sony Pictures TV. Circle of Confusion, Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner also will executive produce with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies), along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners. SPT will sell internationally
