Sony's POWERS Renewed For Season 2

Sony's POWERS Renewed For Season 2

PlayStation Network's first foray into original scripted drama has been received with mixed critical response since it debuted two months ago. Despite this, Sony have still officially renewed Powers for a second season. Read on for more details!

It's fair to say that the critical reception to Sony's Powers has been mixed. Rated at 50% over on Rotten Tomatoes and a 51 on Metacritic, PSN's first original show never appeared to take off in the same manner as rival company Netflix. That said, it's clear the show must have impressed some of its viewership, as earlier today Sony announced it had been renewed for a second season.

Speaking about the renewal to THR, John Koller (VP Platforms Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America) had a lot of positives to say about the show:

"The reception to Powers has been incredible, and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind. We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of Powers.”

Additionally, Sony Pictures Television's Jamie Erlicht promised season two will "broaden the Powers universe" as well as "bring even more of the fan-favorite characters and storylines to life".

Many viewers bemoaned the show's lack of availability when it was only aired for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers. In an era of abundant comic-book TV shows, it's understandable how Powers may have slipped under the radar a little. What do you think of the show's renewal? Will this make you want to check it out - if you haven't already? Let us know your thoughts below!

@Maniac - I honestly have no idea. I meant to check it out sometime but my housemate's always hogging the PS4. In fairness, it does belong to him... Which is why I imagine a lot of people haven't seen this. Because not everyone has PlayStations. Sony restricted the show's viewership in making that decision.

@TheAmbassador - It is indeed. I agree he's an incredible actor. And hell yes to an A-Team sequel. Don't care what people say, I loved that movie! :D

I LOVED this comic series. I was stoked for the show. But... they got it so [frick]ing wrong. I dig Copley.. but his take on Christian is soooo bad. The complete changed the character's traits.

I fear this will be how I end up feeling about Preacher. I'll keep high hopes, but since they've already cast more people for roles created for series than they have actual characters from the comics... meeeeeeeh.

I watched it all. The visual effects are TERRIBLE but the show is strangely addictive. At ten episodes it's worth a punt.

I really enjoyed the show and the story was great. Did they take liberties with the comics? Yes, they did. Was it still good in its own right? Yes it was.

This is my second best show of this year right behind Flash. Both shows have had great stories in their shows and they dont mind actually doing things to surprise you in the story.

It's only for PS+ subscribers which limited viewership for the show. If you have a PS check it out.

I watched the first season... I felt like there wasn't enough character development, some characters either felt useless and [frick]ing annoying as hell or just took too long to really care about. But episode 4 and 5 are definitely the ones that'll determine whether you're hooked or not. Those were THE best episodes of the season because shit actually happens, and that's my issue with the show: nothing really happens. It doesn't feel like anything is going anywhere mostly, like the characters weren't developed or interesting enough to keep you entertained until certain events finally happen... I just hope that there'll be better writing for next season, because I want these characters fleshed out. I'd give it a 6/10.

Nice, I actually enjoyed the show despite the crappy production value.

I want to like it, but it just felt weird. Overly forced emotion and anti-climactic events. You can see everything coming from a mile away. And although I enjoy Sharlto Copley, he wasn't right for this role... and his accent hurts my ears
