VisionQuest's Rotten Tomatoes Score Surges As It Becomes One Of Marvel Studios' Best-Reviewed Series

VisionQuest has seen its Rotten Tomatoes score surge from 82% to 90% following its premiere, making Marvel's latest series one of the MCU's best-reviewed shows. Here's what you need to know.

The review embargo for VisionQuest lifted last week, and when the dust settled, the series had a respectable 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes. With that, the show was officially "Certified Fresh," and Marvel Television had delivered another well-received show.

However, 82% put VisionQuest beneath the likes of Loki and Daredevil: Born Again. The score also meant it was the lowest-rated series of the WandaVision trilogy, behind WandaVision (92%) and Agatha All Along (84%).

Still, 82% is the equivalent of roughly 4/5 or 8/10, so that's hardly a bad result. Now, though, with additional reviews counted since Wednesday's two-episode premiere, VisionQuest's Tomatometer score has surged, and it sits at an impressive 90%.

That places it among Marvel Studios' top streaming offerings and lines up with what we saw about VisionQuest in our full season review. We concluded, "Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest, a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."

It's rare for a Rotten Tomatoes score to increase after a movie or TV show's release; we're sure you remember Wonder Woman 1984 being "Certified Fresh" before it plummeted into "Rotten" territory in 2020.

According to the Critics Consensus for VisionQuest, "Picking up where WandaVision left off, this series investigates the humanity beneath the robot, where the artificial becomes reality with heart, deliberate emotion, and a clear-eyed VisionQuest."

Now, all eyes will be on what showrunner Terry Matalas does next in the MCU. It's hard to imagine he won't be enlisted to tell another story in this world, though what that is obviously remains to be seen.

In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.

His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.

The series premieres on Disney+ on October 14.

It was good, the moment Matalas was announced for this i was lloking forward to it. But how does it compare to Lanterns clout?

The first two episodes were promising.

But this is Disney+ Marvel. So I'll wait until the fat lady sings before forming an opinion.

@ObserverIO - that’s very fair as so many others started strong and then went off the rails mid season.

So far it’s clearly one of the best Marvel shows on Disney Plus, WandaVision and Werewolf by Night being the other two standouts.

I don’t care too much about the critics but it’s been cool to see the reactions from fans online. Seems to be universally loved right now

The first two episodes were great.

I just truly hope it continues this way rather than falling into the same pit that ruined most of the D+ shows.

Fingers crossed.

@DocSpock - James Spader is fantastic. Remember him in Less Than Zero?

@FireGunn - elaborate, if you please. The first two episodes have had action, intrigue, a unique approach within the context of Marvel productions and great actors. It also manages to feel like a MCU product. Just curious what you particularly didn’t like.

First episode was shockingly good - James Spader is basically the Ben Kingsley of 2026 MCU.

He's solid [frick]ing gold in a show that is too little, too late and won't move the needle.

Again, not enough people get pissed when something decent surfaces after years of dogshit they had to pretend to like.

This site is filled with 'fans' that would claim that there was no drop off in quality and that MS MARVEL compares favorably to this.
