Marvel Studios May Have Been Developing A WICCAN TV Series Prior To WGA And SAG-AFTRA Strikes

Wiccan is expected to take centre stage in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and a new report claims that Marvel Studios was planning a spin-off revolving around the teenager prior to the WGA strike beginning...

We've known for several months that Joe Locke will play Wiccan in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, but it appears Marvel Studios has plans for Billy Kaplan beyond the WandaVision spin-off.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, a TV series revolving around Wiccan was in the works prior to the WGA strike. No additional details have been shared, though this would be the third series to spin out of the Phase 4 title after Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Vision Quest

Billy is, of course, Wanda Maximoff and The Vision's son. Alongside his twin brother, Tommy, they were wiped from existence when the Scarlet Witch took down the Hex surrounding Westview in WandaVision.

While comic book fans will know their teenage counterparts as Young Avengers Wiccan and Speed, it's not like they somehow survived and just grew up after fading into nothing. On the page, when Wanda lost her children (after similarly creating them with her Chaos Magic), their souls inhabited Billy Kaplan and Thomas Shepard.

So, they both are and aren't the Avenger's kids, but thanks to their "mother," the reincarnated twins were granted incredible powers.

We'd assume something will happen that leads to Agatha tracking Billy down in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Perhaps she wants his abilities for herself or hopes to train the boy. Either way, there are currently no confirmed plans for Speed but we do expect Wiccan to be a potential game-changer in the MCU.

Assuming this project actually becomes a reality, bet on it revolving around Wiccan finding his brother and perhaps even tracking down the Scarlet Witch in a loose adaptation of The Children's Crusade. That's something we've heard rumblings about for a good year or more now.

We'll see what happens, but this sounds more like a Special Presentation rather than a TV show. Disney CEO Bob Iger is looking to cut back on streaming content to avoid any future dilution of the MCU brand so there's every chance this spin-off will ultimately fall by the wayside.

Keep checking back here for updates.

"May have"

I think at this point with the MCU we can dispell any bottom notion that anything and everything isn't at one time in some stage of development. Whether those things should be is a whole other question.

Ok, look. I'm throwing this out because marvel has the worst ideas now.

Happy hogan as the new iron man.

Tony leaves happy a new version of the hulkbuster suit, which he uses as part of a new security job he has.

What's interesting about this is that he already has the selfless attitude Tony needed to develop, but his weakness is with technology. So he has to break out of his comfort zone to use this technology in order to save people, which he views as his responsibility because Tony left him the suit.

I’d be down for a young avengers show but this is pushing it, things are getting spread too thin as it is. The biggest issue the MCU has is everything is expanding but nothing is building towards something, they gotta streamline things

@Ha1frican - That's the biggest issue they have right now. Thanos was a threat for a decade. Right now...Kang gets iced by Ant-Man? Sure there are the council of Kangs but if this one was beaten so easily but Ant-Man...then that puts Kang's perceived threat level to like what? 2 out of 10? lol Intro Dormammu this time and give him a better return...Get Doom in here to cause chaos and let magneto rip through half the MCU only to find Apocalypse is on the horizon to eliminate everyone.

@Timelessicons - I think the odds of the Kang from Quantumania being dead are actually pretty low but I think even the council of Kangs can be a great threat because they can essentially be anything. The issue is that we got introduced to Kang what, 3 years ago? In a show most people didn’t watch and then nothing until Ant-Man which a lot of people also didn’t watch. With the exception of Spider-man and Doctor Strange dealing with the concept of the multiverse there’s basically been no unified momentum toward him to make the average person care about each property. From 2010 to 2018 everyone knew every movie built towards something, we watched Ant-man because we knew it would be important later. That’s not the case anymore and because of that they need to give people a reason to invest. They are expanding when they should be rebuilding the core franchises (or creating new ones) before expanding again. I say pull a Defenders and have the shows tie into one another unless they are leading directly into a movie then after a crossover show introduce that group to the Avengers. If a show comes out we should have that character at least cameo in a movie within the next year so that people will watch it in anticipation, or go back after the fact. Since the first wave of shows there really hasn’t been any reason for the casual audience to watch. Ms. Marvel is a perfect example of this, why put a show out from a new character that’s not well known and then wait over a year for he to appear in The Marvels. That show should have been release months if not weeks ahead of that movie and been pushed as required reading for that movie.

@Ha1frican - I can understand your perspective. Would be nice if they just brought him back with a vengeance and if not, then make sure the Council of Kangs turns everything upside down for a while. I do hope they start going back to the direction that the first few phases took.

Speaking from the the heart of a massive die hard MCU fan…

Phuck of marvel. People are getting bored of your behaviour.

Assuming this rumor is true, Kevin Feige has completely checked out. No one wants to see this. Seems that when Feige was given total control of the studio in 2019, he delegated too much.

Marvel as a Hobby.

@GeneralZod - No member of the Young Avengers should have a solo show. Wiccan could be a member of the YA in a project on them, but a solo show about him would be really lame.

@mountainman - This. They've already introduced MOST of the Young Avengers in other shows. Including Wiccan and Speed.

So if they really are going to dive into the Young Avengers they should just do it and use the characters they've introduced.

Patriot, Hawkeye, Wiccan, Speed and Stature. And during the first season of Young Avengers introduce Hulkling (now that Skrulls have been fully implemented in the MCU), and Iron Lad (Now that Kang has been introduced). And also reveal that Wiccan and Speed are Scarlet Witch's kids.

But making all these shows about single side characters is clearly not working.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah let’s compare to the Avengers and X-Men.

A list Avengers characters, like Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, Black Panther and Thor worked having their own movies. But lesser known Avengers, like let’s say Tigra, Hercules, Wasp, or many more should be a part of an ensemble and not have their own properties.

Then the X-Men. I love the X-Men but find them to be more dependent on a team dynamic than even the Avengers. There are few of them that could carry a solo film. BUT, there are several of them that could carry a season of a streaming show - Cyclops, Storm, Angel, and probably several more could give us an interesting single season of a streaming show.

But to compare to Wiccan, nobody wants to see a Quentin Quire show. Nobody wants a show about Cannonball. Or Dust. These are side characters that need to be a part of a team.

@mountainman - Exactly! This is why Hawkeye and Black Widow didn't get solo movies before Avengers. They focused on their big names. Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor. Those are all names pretty much all non-comic readers have at least heard. When the MCU started I would say Hulk was the only A lister out of that group. But the others were B listers at the time and MOST people, whether they knew their origins or secret identities or not, have AT LEAST heard those names before.

Black Widow and Hawkeye? Not so much. So they didn't get solo movies leading up to Avengers.

It's the same idea.

@CorndogBurglar - Agreed. I think by the time they both got projects they had earned them, although the quality was certainly questionable in both cases.

One of the problems with Phases 4 and 5 is going very quickly into side characters before they are properly established.

If they want to explore lesser known characters, a one shot is preferable to an entire season of a show. It’s as if they’ve learned nothing from the issues they’ve had with D+ content.

Marvel Disney+ shows had so much potential... Wiccan is not a character that can carry his own show. We all here know why they might be considering doing it though.

Definitely interested in seeing Wiccan since Hulking should follow. All we need now is Hulking and Iron Lad at some point and if done right, the Young Avengers could be great on screen especially if they follow Hulking's and Iron lad's story from the source material.
