WHAT IF...? Poster Reveals A New Look At The Animated God Of Thunder Dubbed "Party Thor"

We don't know the question this Wednesday's episode of What If...? will ask (yet), but a new poster reveals a closer look at a character we've come to know as "Party Thor" thanks to recent merchandise.

Marvel Studios will reveal the title of Wednesday's episode of What If...? tomorrow, but for now, we have a teaser poster hinting at what's to come. Thanks to merchandise and promo art for the animated Disney+ series, it's been confirmed that this is "Party Thor," with the prevailing theory being that this God of Thunder was never humbled by his father, Odin (meaning this is probably a new take on Thor).

As a result, when this Thor comes to Earth, it's to hold a party...one that could have disastrous consequences for the planet. We're certainly intrigued, and with Chris Hemsworth set to reprise the role, we can hopefully look forward to this being another star-studded episode with few stand-ins.

The voice cast for What If...? has been pretty great thus far, with the non-MCU actors doing a solid job for the most part. However, we're still getting used to hearing an Iron Man who isn't Robert Downey Jr. or a non-Chris Evans Steve Rogers alongside Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter!

As for "Party Thor," that's a cool costume, and he certainly looks like a confident Thunder God. The Watcher, meanwhile, is looming in the background and seeing as the mid-season trailer showed this Thor alongside Doctor Strange Supreme, something tells us Uatu will soon start interfering.

Check out this latest poster for What If...? below and keep checking back here for updates!

Everyone seems to be really excited for this episode so I’m curious to see what’s in store with this one.

Thor was pretty much party Thor at the very beginning of the first film. Apparently none of the stuff in that film never happens in this reality and he essentially never grows up.

@JFerguson - Well, for what it's worth, I'm old and was in a fraternity. And according to my wife I've never grown up. But I'm well adjusted. I mean, it's not like I have an entire room dedicated to my Transformers collection or a movie room with stadium seating and movie toys including replicas of Stormbreaker, Cap's shield, and the Ghostbusters' Neutrona wand with Dr. Strange's Eye of Agamotto on preorder. That would be ridiculous!

I will give this a chance, but considering how I'm the one person who hated Ragnarok and how Hemsworth has started to use the role as an excuse to flex his improv comedy muscules, I feel this will be the first What if? episode I don't like at all.

So far this is the worst of the d+ plus Marvel series, which is a good product but still

You know, I'm really enjoying this show so far, all in all. I know that opinions are divided on it (at least based on what I've read on this site), but I'm enjoying the ride. For one thing it's certainly less predictable than the live action shows (which I've enjoyed to varying degrees so far), and the animation is pretty good (and at some points outstanding), so I'm pretty happy with it. And the fact that it's all canon just adds to it. I particularly like how emotional it can be at times. Like the Dr. Strange episode just got me in the feels with the way it ended that I was not expecting. Plus every episode with Chadwick just feels like they knew he was dying (even though they didn't) because he delivers his lines with such gravitas and relevance that I can't help but get a little emotional hearing him deliver them. Like The Watchers last bit about heroes not being born, etc. How perfect was that? BTW, for those detractors of the story and animation: check out the article(s) on this site which has the interviews with the head of production, etc. on the series. Apparently they had to farm out the animation to at least five different animation studios in different countries and were really pressed for time to get the whole show together, so I give them a lot of credit for pulling off what they did. Sorry if it sounds like I'm gushing/fanboying (is that a word?) because I don't mean to, I'm just finally getting around to sharing my take on this series and I like it quite a bit (I do, however, have a five year old daughter who kindly asks that there be no more zombie episodes, to which I replied "Well then you probably don't want to hear about this rumor I read recently...").

I hope this episode is more entertaining than last week's episode.

Curious to see if this one ends up featuring the "Stark on Sakaar" or "Warlord Gamora" storylines. I don't think I've seen much to indicate where the Party Thor story goes.

I'm starting to wonder if the 9th episode of this show is longer than the others. Seems like episode 8 features the Black Widow storyline that centers around Ultron, which potentially leaves episode 9 to cover the whole "Guardians of the Multiverse" story

@OmegaDaGrodd - I think the Sakaar and Gamora episodes might be the same and 9 being Ultron winning, with Black Widow as the only surviving Avengers.

Also, as is now tradition with What If, Tony Stark is gonna die in bothe episodes he gonna appear in (8 and 9)

What if it's just Thor deciding not to attack Jotunheim and instead party? Thus the first Thor film never happens, he never is cast out or deemed unworthy but still doesn't need to grow up or reclaim Mjolnir.

''What If'' feel like the same pasta you ate for 10 years, so you decided to put a slice of Kraft Singles cheese on top to make it different..

What if Thor was never banished to Earth maybe?

Anyway this is probably the episode I've been looking forward to the least. Hope it can surprise me

@bkmeijer - that's what I guessed. Like maybe he didn't start shit in Jotunheim.
