It's fair to say that MCU fans have already fallen in love with What If...?'s Captain Carter, a Peggy Carter Variant who took the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers. However, something we've all been wondering is what exactly led to that happening in the alternate reality both heroes hail from.
Well, thanks to an upcoming Marvel Legends action figure based on the HYDRA Stomper armour Steve will don in the show, we may have an answer. "In the universe you know, Steve Rogers was the first Avenger, Captain America," reads an official description. "In this universe, Steve is injured and fights in 'The HYDRA Stomper,' an Iron Man armor created by Howard Stark."
Steve clearly suffers some sort of wound that stops him from taking the Super Soldier Serum, and that's why Peggy steps in. As for this promo art, it definitely looks like the HYDRA Stomper is powered by the Tesseract or a similar energy source, and we can't wait to see it blast into action.
A synopsis for the show was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."
"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."
Of course, we've since learned that the show will arrive on Disney+ on August 11, and we'll be present for today's global press conference to bring you guys plenty of fresh intel. You'll also want to check back here later for our reaction to the first three episodes of Marvel Studios' first animated series...
