Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation has already set its main cast, but now another player has been added to the series’ already impressive list of performers.

According to reports, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Gifted star Elena Satine has joined previously announced cast members John Cho, Daniella Pineda, and Mustafa Shakir to play the role of Julia, a character described as “the dream-like object of Spike Spiegel’s (Cho) desire.”

Of course, as fans of the original anime undoubtedly know, Julia is also among a set of characters who knew Spiegel during his days in the Red Dragon Syndicate, and her inclusion in the live-action series suggests we’ll be seeing a fair amount of flashbacks.

Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg will act as showrunner on Cowboy Bebop, while Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of the original anime, will serve as a consultant.

There’s something’s that just don’t need to be live action and stay as animation. And there’s nothing that has convinced me that this is a good idea. I’m trying to remain optimistic, but there have only been a handful of creators that understand what it takes to translate anime into live action. Alita & Detective Pikachu this year shows that the potential is definitely there, but it matters who you have behind the scenes that has a desire and passion for it.

Looks like a spot on casting choice.

I've only seen the Knocking on Heaven's Door but I absolutely loved that. John Cho as Spike could probably work but I kinda wished they cast younger.

I like Cho but I agree. He's a little too "soft" and"green" for Spike. Spike has a distinct smoothness.

Won Bin from The Man of Nowhere would've been cool

Can someone make and submit a higher res version of this "CBM News" jpg so it does feel like the website is running out of money...

The one being blown up for article headers is heavily bitmapped and looks really cheap.

Man, I'm the guy who says Akira should have a Japanese cast or at least a Japanese-heritage cast, set in Neo Tokyo but when I think of Bebop and I think of Spike, I immediately go to Keanu Reeves. I know Reeves has Asian heritage and I don't know what race (if any was ever specified) Spike is supposed to be in the show (I guess we assume Japanese because of the origin of the show) but in terms of embodying the character, is there anyone on Earth more suited than Reeves? Whether he would actually do it (and do it for whatever Netflix pays) is another matter.

That being said, I think the show is going to need something to hook non-fans and a big star as Spike would definitely be that hook and while Reeves doesn't have the voice of Spike from the anime I think the attitude and personality of the character is something he can nail to the point of it being called typecasting and in this case it absolutely is...and it's perfect.

Or maybe I'm just crazy...or this is just a dream.
