Netflix has just debuted a new trailer and poster for upcoming Western The Harder The Fall, featuring plenty of stylized wild west action from a truly dynamite cast.

The footage kicks-off with "Treacherous" Trudy Smith (Regina King), Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and their gang busting leader Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) out of jail, and it doesn't look like these guys have much interest in taking prisoners. From there, we're introduced to fellow outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors), who sets off with former flame Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler), and Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) to seek vengeance against the ruthless Buck.

This modern spin on the Western genre features a primarily Black cast, and hails from director and producer Jeymes Samuel, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Boaz Yakin. Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, James Lassiter, and Lawrence Bender are on board as producers, and the all-star ensemble also includes Delroy Lindo, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole, and Danielle Deadwyler.

Check out the trailer below, which also features a tease of a new track from Jay-Z and Kid Cudi.

“When outlaw Nat Love (Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Elba) is being released from prison, he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose.”

The Harder They Fall is set to hit Netflix this November.

Reminds me of an all black Western in the 90s called Posse. It starred Mario Van Peebles. His father Melvin Van Peebles died this week. A legendary Black director.

@DarthOmega - he oozed cool without even trying. My grandfather took my dad and his bros to every film he made back in the 70s. Despite them being severely underage haha.

@Waddles - Oh I watched it. I think it's cool how much of a fan Mario was of his father. I'm a Black film junkie. 90s on back especially. A few pretty good ones in the 00s 10s but it was something about 70s Black cinema that had a bit of magic to it. It was unapologetic expression and experimentation.

@Waddles - My grandfather’s favorite movie next to In the Heat of the Night.

I’ve seen it at least 5 times. My dad has a huge blaxploitation collection in two boxes that was started by his dad. He still has this on VHS. I wrote a paper in a black film course in college on Peebles and the racial aesthetics of his movies.

@BlackBeltJones - My dad got me and my bro in to see New Jack City when it came out. Of course it starred Mario Van Peebles among others. Not just any others. Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Chris Rock, Allen Payne, Judd Nelson, Christopher Williams, Vanessa Williams, Bill Nunn (R.I.P) The movie even had Keith Sweat, and Nick Ashford ffs. That movie was a damn classic. We saw it the first week of opening. When my mama found out my pops took us to see that movie she was mad as hell!!! Unforgettable moments. Damn I'm getting old lol.

@Waddles - I wasn't born in the 70s, but I would hear my dad and uncle talk about watching double features of everything from Dolemite to Truck Turner. My mom would talk about Cleopatra Jones, and Foxy Brown. I could only imagine how exciting it must have been for them.

@DarthOmega - My dad watches New Jack and Paid in Full once a month. Love that movie!

Nice cast. It looks like it could be ok.

One thing that bugs me, and It really got me for a lot of Tombstone as well, is how characters are so clean in the dusty ass west, especially wearing black. It would kick up my interest a little if there was a little earthy grittiness to it.

Could the name Jeymes Samuel appear on that poster a couple more times? In case somebody missed it.

Looks [frick]ing awesome (although I gotta admit I’m not a big Idris Elba fan, I feel like he’s the same in everything, but love Majors so that’s cool). Music [frick]ing terrible though and nearly put me off the whole deal. Hate that R&B hip hop rap crap. Blues, soul and rock and roll is where it’s at baby. Or country so long as its not pretty boy trucks and blondes pop crap. [frick] I turn 29 today and I sound like a grumpy 60 year old. Nevermind. This looks good. I’ll just hope that’s not reflective of the soundtrack 😂

That’s funny, I made a little movie called The Harder They Fall years ago.

A buffet of a highly talented black cast. The only white boy I saw there got shot 😂. But seriously, this does look good. Not every day do we see a coloured western.
I am looking forward to this. I don’t know if anyone agrees here but doesn’t Idris always do better with a solid supporting cast?
