Netflix has shared a first look at upcoming psychological thriller Spiderhead, which is based on George Saunders' acclaimed short story for The New Yorker, Escape from Spiderhead

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is at the helm with an all-star cast headlined by Thor: Love and Thunder star Chris Hemsworth, who is set to play a brilliant prison visionary named Steve Abnesti. In his prisons, inmates sign on to wear surgically attached devices that administer dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences.

Joining Hemsworth are Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick; Fantastic Four) and Primetime Emmy-nominee Jurnee Smollett (Birds of PreyLovecraft Country). It's their characters who will form a special connection and set the events of the film in motion as Abnesti's shady experiments begin to push the limits of free will.

With the release of these photos, it seems likely a trailer will be arriving soon, especially with Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick and Hemsworth's Thor: Love and Thunder receiving a heavy amount of publicity leading into May.

Spiderhead starts streaming, exclusively on Netflix, on June 17.

In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether. Based on The New Yorker short story by George Saunders, SPIDERHEAD is a genre-bending and darkly funny psychological thriller directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick) and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland).

Every time Miles Teller appears in a movie, I secretly hope there’s a scene where another character just repeatedly punches the guy in the face. Drama, romantic comedy, animation? Doesn’t matter. Someone just needs to punch that guy in the face.

@santoanderson - Genuinely one of my least favorite actors working today. That is one of the reasons, but I think he's awful as well lmao.

@MyCoolYoung - Yeah it's weird. I don't find him to be a good actor and his presence does nothing for me from the movies i've seen.

Another one is timothee chalamet. Just takes me out of every movie.

You see Hemsworth and prison in the same headline and the mind immediately jumps to whether Ezra Miller is about to look not so bad. But no it's just a movie and Hemsworth is fine haha.
